Bonjour !
You might have been wondering as to why I have been posting a seemingly endless series of photos about Beach Art (and my 'collection' or 'zoo' of 200 Sea Monsters) and Driftwood Art. Well, read on, and I will try and explain.
I have had 6 Exhibitions (3 of Mail/Envelope Art, 2 of Arty Slides and one of aquarelle paintings) running almost consecutively from the beginning of April to the end of August. They have left me somewhat exhausted. (And then I got involved in a 7th Exhibition which didn't help at all.)
So a few weeks ago, I started going to the local beach every morning to relax a bit, and, walking up and down it, as is my wont. I discovered interesting piles of driftwood – lo and behold, a Beach & Driftwood Art theme started to emerge.
And then, a New Kid on the Block arrived in Sigean (where I live), and decided to open a Contemporary Art Gallery in the main square of the historic village. La Galerie Serrencia (www.serrencia.com) is linked to one in Paris and a wider art network.
I have been appointed (for an initial 8-month period) one of the two Artists in Residence at la Galerie. When it is officially opened in mid-September, I will launch my residency by initially exhibiting about 15 large sepia Sea Monster photos, as well as some 40 pieces of Driftwood Art. Some photos of la Galerie are here.
Two months later, my next Exhibition at la Galerie Serrencia will be on «Samantha's Polaroids» , but more on Samantha and her Polaroids later.
In the meantime, you might get to see some more Sea Monsters and bits of Driftwood Art, as they do seem to have taken over my life.
Do come to Galeria Serrencia in Sigean, France!

Oui, Sue; It's driftwood. If you look at my web site (which I'm trying to update) www.val-herman-art.eu under the section Beach Art then Driftwood, you'll see some other examples.
Some of my Sea Monsters are massive -- 8 feet high, and weigh tons -- and I don't think that blue tack would be of much use if you tried to put them on your wall.
Beats sticking stuff on the wall with blue tack which is mostly what I do... love the sea monsters and the gallery. Is that one in the glass case painted drift wood - especially like that one :>)
Wow, you sure can spot a monster in the sand. These are terrific. I went to the gallery's site, also. I like seeing your photos of the installation of the pieces in the space. Congratulations. Well done.
Of course, Katerina! You will get your very own conducted tour...not only of the Galerie, but also of Sigean.
I'm not exactly sure where MAM is, or when she is coming...but it has to be before this Thursday (6 Sept) 'cos I'm going to Holland then.
Beautiful Sea Monster work in a very nice gallery!
I shall be visiting this gallery in Sigean soon....Mail Art Martha, too?
Congratulations, Val! You are a true "artiste"! xxx
What do you take me for -- some type of b(l)ogging social network freak?!
I'm an artist (albeit of a urinary nature for most of the time) not some computer idjit.
Or as Elton John (or was it Gilbert O'Sullivan) once said, 'I'm a writer, not a fighter'.
Anyway, I didn't write the bog. I got one of my more learned sea monsters to write it. It's photo is below. You will see that it's intelligence is built into the lego brick-type thing on the back of its magnificent body.
I'm training some other ones to contribute to Viz'n'Val
I have to go now, or as we used to say in the North east of England, I'm going to 'bog off'.
Au revoir
I'm in shock! Val did a blog! Hee hee! And what a great space in Sigean! Busy busy boy, at this rate you'll never get back to Viz n Val or whatever it's called now?! You go girl!
-You are worthy each gram of Your "beret-artiste"!!!
So kewl! The pics looks great blown up and in sepia and what a great space to show them in. Congrats to you Kram!!!
