Received from Ryosuke Cohen, Japan--Brain Cell 797

Ryosuke Cohen's Brain Cell project, begun in 1985, is a networked art project where artists create their own work of art with stamps, drawings, or stickers and send them to Cohen, who prints each cell - 150 copies each - and sends them back to each participant. New editions are published every 8 to 10 days.

"...we are all part of a FRACTAL, and that I can be a piece of that FRACTAL, and that I can create art, in a way that extends beyond myself as an individual, in communication with infinite mail artists' ideas. In the same way that we appreciate the various kinds of LIFE FORMS in the amazon, we can experience a multitude of art forms in the MAIL ART NETWORK. It is only human beings who can experience plural LIFE FORMS, by which we can acquire a genuine sense of new creation," Cohen explains.

Here is Ryosuke's site for anyone interested. I find his efforts noble and mesmerizing:

Bifidus--Thank you for the great background information and link to Ryosuke Cohen. This gentleman obviously deserves a respected position in the annals of mail art history for promoting artful correspondence and creating worldwide friendships. How wonderful that he has been so consistent in his mail art philosophy and practice for so many years!
