Sometimes is never quite enough
If you're flawless, then you'll win my love
Don't forget to win first place
Don't forget to keep that smile on your face
Be a good boy
Try a little harder
You've got to measure up
And make me prouder
How long before you screw it up
How many times do I have to tell you to hurry up
With everything I do for you
The least you can do is keep quiet
Be a good girl
You've gotta try a little harder
That simply wasn't good enough
To make us proud
I'll live through you
I'll make you what I never was
If you're the best, then maybe so am I
Compared to him compared to her
I'm doing this for your own damn good
You'll make up for what I blew
What's the problem, why are you crying
Be a good boy
Push a little farther now
That wasn't fast enough
To make us happy
We'll love you just the way you are
If you're perfect
Dean Marks warned me ahead of time about this mail art. It is a very thought provoking piece and I can definately relate to it. He has adapted a song from an artist I have always loved, Alanis Morissette. Through his adaptation, he is pointing out the absurdity of perfectionism--particularly as it relates to (I'm assuming) parenting and the display or withholding of love--unconditional vs. conditional. These expectations are very hurtful and I know many artists who are stifled because of their fear of not measuring up. I don't think art can be right or wrong. I don't even think art can be good or bad, because it just is and the goal is expression and communication. Dean has appropriately included a barf bag. He knows me too well as there was a note inside the bag that said "I knew you would look in here!". the note was tucked inside the bag-no tape-and it made it here just fine. Such a great piece Dean. I can't say I will send you flawless art because that would be completely boring. it is our flaws that make us endearing. I hope my blog post has measured up to your standards Dean, and those of the 'they' who try to hold our destiny in 'they' hands.

I can't quite tell what I'm looking at Erni. I see it's a dog but can't see it's head!!
I'm honored Dean:)
Erni, I'm thinking you should have included a barf bag in the mayo paquette you sent. Mustard would probably make a pretty good dye. Alanis Morissette is very passionate and her lyrics are great I think. Isn't It Ironic is one of my favorite songs of hers.
please don't feel you've insulted me Dean--it has really got me thinking of how to respond to it, although I can't possibly top a barf bag:)
Yes, indeed a good blog, and as I said, my Mail Art is only meant to be funny. Nothing ever more than that. But if it makes your mind wander, then all the better. Somehow I just knew that you might be a Alanis Morissette admirer. Very deep blog, now you got me thinking on another level than "funny". I hope you are pleased to know that I thought that you were the only one in the Mail art world that I trusted to receive this. That's a compliment ... I think?
Erni, Sadly this is just an Air France model AF05.184 barf bag which comes with an economy seat. Once I flew to New York in Business class (on my wife's air miles, yes she is a Saint as well) and they had silver lining barf bags. I now wish I would have kept one of those.
Happy it flew all the way to you without being sick!
