Red & Black by Kristina Minarovicova (Bratislava, Slovakia) - a nod to E - Ambassador of Utopia (Guivry, France)

Mail-art by IUOMA member Kristina Minarovicova (Bratislava, Slovakia)

September 5, 2013 - My documentation of mail-art received is a "chance operation," although I try to blog everything, theoretically. Thus, although belated, I am eager to share this wonderful piece I received from Kristina Minarovicova.

Her kind letter below indicates that she was inspired by the red and black theme, which is the invention of E - Ambassador of Utopia (Guivry, France). E's red and black has produced outstanding art; I have made humble efforts. Kristina's work is most certainly a brilliant contribution. Here is the reverse side:

From red and black, Kristina Minarovicova conjures images of war, violence or force in a way, I believe, that compels the recipient to hope for peace. Stendahl's The Red and the Black (I am convinved this is where E got the idea), is indeed a novel about war and empire; those colours have strong associations. I like her use of string in the piece especially and the tag with writing. While a lovely collage, this could be viewed as visual poetry (vispo) as well. Her message is truly wonderful:

I am extremely impressed and deeply moved. The envelope is a stand out:

 And the reverse:

My deepest thanks to Kristina Minarovicova for sending this, although she seems to have been inspired most by E-Ambassador of Utopia. Perhaps she can contribute, or maybe already has, to E's red and black mail-art call.

That envelope is bloody excellent, with the red hand, paws, cocktail and The Scream baby?!

Dear Kristina, I am so glad you found the blog. Thank you again for the wonderful art. I am a fan of the red and the black too.

I think the great mail-artist E would appreciate anything you send him as much as I do. Yes, he is a like a phantom. He comes and goes when no one knows. He is a mystery. But he is also a great friend to all, a philosopher, an artist, a gentleman. This I have written about him many times. So do not be shy:

Here at the Overlook Hotel it is very dark. I looked again in the very bright light. I see the secret message. All mail-art should have a secret message. I tried to scan it, and the light will not shine through. But I will tell everyone the message supports my interpretation that is written above.

For a long time I have had your envelope here and I look at "Bloody Hell." What could this be? I asked myself many times. Do I want to know? All is well now.

So this goes to the MinXus-Lynxus blog. If you hear from the Mink Rancher, you will know who it is.

Thank you again.
