Haptic Shnaptic from Helen Amyes, Australia--Whiff of Tea Tree and Holes

The investigation of holes continues here at IUOMA and Helen has presented them in textured layers.Yves Klein, famous for leap into the void, said, "with the void, full powers", while assemblage master Joseph Cornell resolved his horror vacui (fear of empty spaces) by filling boxes with 3-D objects. Helen has filled the empty space of an envelope with punched-out holes--part of her exploration of holes as having negative and positive aspects. Haptic for sure. The offbeat colors are fun and I dig the fingerprint on the envelope:-) Thanks, Helen.

thanks for the background on your mail art, Helen. Explaining one's art seems to fall into two camps around here--either people like it, or they don't. While I can appreciate art as a stand-alone work, I like it when artists explain their methods, their intent, their stories, etc. For me it is a richer viewing experience.

Those punched out papers are great. I recently bough a puncher just for one precise purpose and don't know what to do with it now. Gives me some ideas....

Is Zena related to the South African monkey troupes that are stealing mail art?  Is there a new fad amongst furry creatures to undermine our creativity???

I HAD a piece like this, but Zena knocked it off the table and ran with it.  I never recovered it, but I know I will.  It's gotta be under a bed somewhere.  Poor Zena, out of control since Lisa got her Juiced on the Nip.  She's in Rehab.

I'm eager to watch this piece, Helen- I think it changes when we're not looking.
