Explore her Feelings and Ideas - from Nancy Bell Scott

This piece by Nancy blew my mind into a different hairdo. I could tell from the envelope...
"Explore her feelings and ideas" is written somewhere in that piece on transparent paper, almost completely merged and blended with the background, just visible enough for me to find it. And I found it. So I thought it would make a perfect title for any of Nancy's creations.

I'm not quite sure about the techniques she is using, but it seems to involve layering of very thin (rice-?) paper on a grid of strings, which gives a subtle three dimensionality to the piece . Part of the paper seems to have its own color, but she also added her own paint, lacquer, bits of text, asemic writing. I think you can tell from the pictures that the colors are to die for. She also very much has her way with shapes. I think it is indeed an exploration. A study on circles and lines and their endless possibilities. This is a very rich piece that I would classify as visual poetry because of the strong visual impact and the way she integrated the various forms of text, but it is so much more. I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am. Nancy, thank you for sending, wonderful work as usual!

Hello genkis, I'm so happy you like this work. Nancy, I was starting to think you missed it but I didn't want to send you a message saying hey where are you come have a look at my blog :-)) Thank you for explaining about the technique, it's fascinating. So those are tissue papers?? I could never have guessed. And this might be one of your best piece, IMHO. (DVS, mail-art envy = mail-art covetment = fully allowed).

NV - not allowed. I do like the architecture comparison. The work is very... uh ----- structural.

It's usually really interesting to me when artists describe how they work--Katerina just did it in a blog by Bifidus when I asked her a question--it's another good way to go exploring in your own work, and it's fun to talk about. Marie did a great job of photographing here, by the way, which can't have been easy. The photos are color-true and pick up all the detail. Thanks for that too, Marie. And thank you Lisa!

Whoa, missed this one--thank you for your wonderful blog, Marie--I love your words. And you kind commenters are appreciated very much. The paper was plain white tissue paper that I brushed water on and stained in sheets with fluid acrylics and probably other stuff. And sometimes I sandwich them, with strings in between. Later, more paint and writing etc, as you see here. Cheryl, if you need some black clothes, I can send some with the next m.a., which will be very soon if it can be a one-pager this time, with bigger to follow. :--}

It's got holes and lines and circles! Isn't it a perfect Marie trap...

I think you like it because it is suggestive of holes too, Marie. Nancy is natural-born MinXus for sure. Fabulous work!
