Alicia Starr's imaginary friends! and real art

Alicia sent this piece that fascinates me:The ragged edges along with the hints of rulers, punch cards, hole punch -- favored office supplies of not long ago -- make an intriguing combination. And it's all brought up to date with her wonderfully loose asemic writing.  I see punch cards because those little horizontal marks in varying rows remind me of the stacks of punch cards my father brought home from his job at IBM, long ago. They were for us kids to draw and color on, and what a pity that our little masterpieces were not saved (ha).  On the other hand, these marks look strangely modern too; do we see them nowadays, also related to computers? Or to store label markings? In any case, this piece is all about measuring, with grace and lyricism included.  It's a wonderful collage, Alicia; I love it, and love thinking about it.

Thank you also for the laughing fit brought on by your bit of childhood info on the back of your envelope. One of those laughing fits can relax one for days, sometimes even for a week. I'm very grateful!  Here is the envelope, and thank you very much for all:

Yes, isn't it. And I get such a kick out of Alicia's saying this of her imaginary childhood friends: "I sent them to California on a train." Don't anybody let Alicia get tired of you or whatever, she might send you to California on a train! Then again, I love trains. Please send me, Alicia.
