I buy the masks at flea markets. They are pre-carved, always from wood. Many of them are in a bad physical condition and need quite a lot of cleaning up. And they are usaully painted in the most awful colours, so I strip them down to the wood, or a usable coat of paint or varnish, if there is one, and then start again.

Then WYSIWYG -- or wizziwig -- what you see is what you get. Or rather what you see is what I do.
