Taidgh,
I really appreciate your response I just knew that your envelopes would have be a time-intensive process. I love their intricacy. Half an hour for the postcard is surprising. Your images and characters must pour out of you.I love them. I am glad to hear about the blunders. I am going to see what blunders I can make the next time I get out the paper and glue stick! We have had Thanksgiving this weekend. A lot of eating and resting and watching films and having my dog close by. Bliss as far as I am concerned. Hope you are well. Give my best to the duck flower.
Thank you taidgh, always nice to hear about the process!! I love creative blunders, I always strive to work with them, but I have not been drawing for some time now, a little afraid to have lost it, but maybe that's the idea... Looking forward to see more of your drawings, taidgh!
Christine, good question, here's a long answer! This one took about thirty minutes. I normally do mail art in stages and I complete my pieces over a period of a few days to a few weeks. This one was a nice break from envelopes.
The usual way of doing it: The address goes on first then I draw with a permanent marker from the address - normally working from the middle out. I don't have a plan I just draw. Occasionally I use a pencil to get the idea down. Over the past few months I've given up using a pencil -saves a lot of time. It also allows me to make creative blunders. Blunders are to be encouraged. When the drawing is done I add colour - either pencil or paint or both. Without colour it would be very boring.
I work on quite a few envelopes at once. At the moment I have seven in the works. So I could spend ten minutes here or there working on the ones that interest me. I move on to another one when I have an idea. Envelopes can take a week a more depending on my mood and time. Some envelopes take time as the ink work can be quite detailed. I used one marker for three envelopes recently. Yikes! I'm a maniac with a marker. If I add up all the time spent on mail art it can take up to three hours plus to complete an envelope - front and back.
When I draw some of my usual characters sneak up on me. The strange looking duck flower is a regular. Sometimes she leaves her shouting to one side and tries her hand at singing.
Phew! Long winded. I think I should turn it into a blog post. Thanks Christine and Carina for your nice comments!
Good question Christine. Lovely drawing taidgh!
Taidgh,
I love the "alive" flower that looks a bit like a duck. She seems to be shouting "hooray" that the rain in coming! I love your colors. How long does it take to make one of your creations? Happy Thanksgiving, my friend.
