Laughing hard. No, a kid's desk but really heavy wood and metal( kinda 50's) the type we were supposed to hide under in case of a nuclear bomb explosion. She's sort of a pack rat. She thinks by keeping old notes, pencils and doll furniture she can keep memorys.I'm going to tell her your comment about still teaching in the basement. Plenty of therapy. We call it "insuring the profession".
Nancy, glad it arrived safely, I wasn't sure if this found rusty thingy would make it in one piece!! but thought immedately of you when I saw it ... hugs S.
Yes, indeed we stood in the hall facing the wall. This neighbor of ours built a bomb shelter and my Mom thought he was a nit wit. We kids wanted to use it as a fort but of course nix on that.
Interesting. My Mom would have nothing to do with it either. Both parents died at 67,68. Hope I'm like your folks.
My Mother's claim was she had a fraction of Algonquin in her so it made her hair exempt. I was always hoping she wouldn't bring it up if the conversation headed toward beauty secrets which it rarely did around my Mom.
It's funny because she was (younger days) a make-up artist for the Cleveland Playhouse and did lots of summer stock in New England but didn't care tuppence about make up herself. You and she would have gotten along great I think. I hear you about your Dad and the last years. I cannot imagine how hard it must have been for you to see and him to experience. The Eskimos and their floating ice slab send off is starting to sound better and better to me.
Nancy bell, you remain an inspiration. Summer is crazy, but we go to Michigan for a week. You guys do too, i see. Only so many hours in the water so this will be a focus and a reprieve. Looking forward to whatever you send. xoa
What a hoot! How thoughtful of you! It is tomorrow. As in DKurrent tomorrow, June 12. I was so hoping to "hold" for the next 24 hours, but alas, the web gods have broadcast the news early and wide! I am reminded by the great sages of old that age is merely a number. As such, I refuse to have any nervous breakdowns this year. I'll save it for another 5 years or so. :D
Blown away by your treasures. Can't tell you how I loved the menu of food. All of it. I just adore your stuff. We have such similar taste. Of course your art is fabulous as well. You do it all. Triple threat.
Nancy, you just made my day!!! After a long office day I've found your superwonderful ephemera-fan in the mailbox. I can't believe what a beauty you made out of "nothing" and in an hour as you wrote. Thank you so very much. (And it seems to be a slow owl - not in sight yet, the fan overtook it) - (right words?? tired...) Hugs from here to there Svenja
You may get a laugh out of this: I sent you a package the other day, and I dyslexically recalled your name as "Nancy Scott Bell," not the other way around. I hope it still reaches you!
lol! Well, that's good for me/the packet anyway! ^_^ [You will notice that I'm rather a package freak... I love things/objects, and they simply carry me away...%_^]
ha ha ha - I'm so very glad you're pleased! As I said: packaging freak! ^_^ It's a hangover from a long ago trip to Japan where packaging is a respected art. Everything should be an Experience; a visual, sensual & tactile pleasure...
Yes, ALL of the pockets are to be opened, including ALL in the folio. And yes II, all of the trash/scraps/bits in the folio pockets are to be used in your own work if you like. They were intended as such, but, of course, it is yours now and it's your choice. All of the tape closing the pockets does not stick permanently, so you should be able to open them no problem. In the natural [brown] wax paper bag is another piece...
NB: What I have dreamed, is that eventually the scraps I enclosed will be used, and the emptying pockets filled w/ replacement trash/scraps which the owner [for lack of a better word] has collected themselves. I would love to see future pictures of the piece revamped with new stuff...thus becoming collaborative and taking on a new life...a new creative incarnation...

Nice and cheap: I can afford to wrap lots of my packages in it! ^_^ The sheets that are the cover of the folio I have not been able to find except separated from the lot & sold by a crafts place in 25 sheet packs. It is paler and thinner, more like waxed tissue paper, but I really like it! The shipping is high here too, but it all depends on how much one wants the object I suppose %_^ Scroll down on the page [I used the 10" x 10-3/4" sheets]:
Thanks Nancy! I started another one this morning as we have a whole new batch of weird discarded things. Only one thing that I picked up though. I appreciate your feedback. Have a goo weekend:) XO DK
You're welcome, Nancy....more detritus found on my desk which I thought you might enjoy...that's pretty old....circa 1992? Add it to the pyre pile or forever hold my piece....
Hey Nancy, I'm so glad you like it. It is three pieces of metal that I glued together. I went through a period of collecting pieces of metal from salvage yards, bike and car repair places and the street. I made a bunch of little pieces from them. Enjoy.
Thanks for letting me know that rust-n-blue arrived. Some of my mail art is arriving very slowly...maybe it is the village post office here by the seaside?Something more in the mail to you soon, sweetie!
Your amazing trash flip-book got here--I'm still having fun exploring its details! I loved how you altered the landscape on the map fragment on the back of your letter... so "you" and "you-nique" to have altered the landscape with your own topography! Super cool.
I imagine OOB is just abuzz with the tourist crowd right now--especially with the heat you've been experiencing this year. The difference in the crowds must be SO MANIC between the different seasons.
btw Nancy, I'm also a rust freak! I'm a metalsmith, & in mid-late '80s had a studio in the meat packing dist. of NYC. The lower west side was some of the earliest populated RE in ny, so a lot of the streets were very tiny & still cobblestone/not traveled a lot. Aaaanyway, this caused havoc on all the trucks, and their droppings were everywhere! It was a treasure trove of old metal/machine parts - we were constantly scavenging for our work...
Really? As a metalsmith, lots of my friends are rust-mad...
Mmm, glad I let you know te he... %_^ There must be a trove somewhere here in Pitts as it was a big steel town, it's so clean now though. btw, i was recently in Bethlehem PA & went to see the Beth. Steelworks. It was truly amazing! I didn't have a camera unfortunately, but took a few bad/small photos w/ my phone...will post some time...
Hey Nancy, sooo glad you like it. My daughter helped me find all the pieces. I truly do hope it doesn't fall apart on you. You've sent me so many great trashterpieces lately. This last one was really fantastic and the stack of lists was a welcome sight. I'm so behind on blogging everything, and even though there is no place for guilt in mail art, it always bothers me. So please don't feel pressured to blog. Hope you're doing well xo DK
