1952 (when I sent a "Thankyou for my Birthday Present' to my Grandma, and illustrated it with a little drawing). Since then my Mail Art history has been, well, interesting
Oh Val, I just love your new do! You look ready to dance the tango at the drop of a red rose! Also, I'll break one of my mail art codes and tell you to expect something from me soon that was supposed to be for your envelope themed show, but it is not on topic at all. It is also not the proper size. I didn't know when the show was opening, so I sent something posthaste without reading the prompt very well. So if it works, well great. If not, I'll be ever in your debt.
Glad to see that you received my Tina Turner and UFO cards. Sorry that I haven't gotten back to you before now, but I had dental surgery last Friday (March 23, 2012) and felt bad for a few days. Today is the first day that my mouth hasn't hurt since seeing the dentist. I had a bone graft put in, and the dentist has me wearing a "flipper" to fill in the hole where the missing tooth is. In 3 months, I will get an implanted tooth. I'm adjusting to the flipper, but it's not easy. My daughter tells me that the little girls on "Toddlers and Tiaras" wear flippers to replace missing baby teeth. I don't know if they have "Toddlers and Tiaras" outside the United States or not. It's a reality show on television about young girls in beauty pageants and their demanding Mothers. Here in this country they have this program on a network called The Learning Channel. Honestly, I can think of lots of other things I'd rather learn about than these pageants.
As for my "booboo_babies" name that I go by on Flickr, Postcrossing and some other places. Well, I have a daughter who will be 21 on May 24 this year, and a son who will be 12 in September. They are 9 years apart and both of them were surprises (the best kind of surprises, more like a gift from God). Hence, my lovely children are "booboo_babies". - Gail
I am indeed a Monty Python fan, although I don't know if American fans have the same depth of knowledge as British fans would. I also enjoyed the Fawlty Towers series. More fun!
Oh Val! I think I had a stamp-a-gasm!! I am preparing for you a package tomorrow. My two uncontrollable obsessions...stamps and currency. Anything in particular you are looking for? I so thouroughly enjoyed your link and will visit it often for a warm fuzzy fix!
Mail just came, and brought more linocuts from you that I was hoping for--thank you very much, Val, you're a peach! You've had a lot going on lately, i know, so you were nice to send them at all. Merci merci merci ... I love them.
Have I thanked you for your most recent mail gift? I hope so, because the southern belle in my brain spanks me when I forget. And she's really strong, so it hurts. So Thank you! Also, I'll be visiting London in May with my parents. We are calling this (our third or forth trip to London) our Nerd Pilgrimage. We will be spending lots of time in museums and libraries. Any suggestions you might have would be amazing. For example, we want to see William Morris' home and the museum of science and nature. We have already done the main tourist things, so this trip is really all about the British Museum and the National collections, as well as Soane's collections though they may be small. Just wondering if you have any wisdom.
Glad to see you got #966...and don't worry, I will not "retire" from mail art. I have already sent out #1001 ...and a few more "beyond 1001"...so I continue at a merry pace. Now, however I stop numbering. Amen. Just making :-)
Best of success with your exhibit...don't work too hard. enjoy! xxx
Yes, I think there is something more inside that second envelope, though I'm guessing it is just a wee note. Thanks for the London ideas, there are a couple on that list I didn't think of. I'm also adding the Royal College of Surgeons to the tours, but probably not before we eat. Eek.
Very Nice!!! Congrats my friend, the panels look wonderful!!! Nice job Val or is it "Mark" now!!!?!!! I will of course be sending my 1 envelope to cover my fine that was halfed and a couple extras to cover any future transgressions although I hope to not have any or at least not too many ;) xoxo
This just proves that great minds think alike! I'd already jotted down your address and had begun to plot out your piece! Probably won't go out until next week, but rest assured, it will be on its way shortly!
Bravo, Val, excellent exhibit and your display is marvelous!
I understand that you a busy with this exhibit, but still...
The Presidential Guard is coming ("foustenella" and pom-poms and all),wanting to be a member of the Val Lino Prints Fan Club. Actually, you did receive several envelopes for Sigean Summer, a Greek Red Cap, and a 1001 special card...what more can i send to qualify for a few dozen lino prints ? (marked, numbered and dated, of course).
Will humbly appreciate any fine lino print you may send, My Dear Valentine xxx
I have a proposition. I have a hard time finding slides. Do You have 4 slides that I can trade with You? What do You wan't in return? I have old old old Swedish stamps and a cool authentic cancellator (I know it is not the proper word for it but a better one that I propose everyone should call these so callet cachet's or whatever).
I would give You the Kingdom (of Sweden) if I could but I wan't to give You a "surprise". And it is not even a ticket to the next Nobel Price banquet but a much more humble trade than that. Your Ferrari is orange, that I have seen on pictures and much more lovelier than it's Italian brother. I am glad for any slides so You choose, everything is a challenge though a paper slide... ;)
I will show You the Cancellator within a week....
The Best to You,
Nik
p.s. I'll be in the Carousel so please tell the biker-gorillas that stands outside my frontdoor to go away!!!!!
The bikers were gone this morning, I thought they were a threat from Arty slides int. but I was wrong, they just got the wrong house, those bikers are also opponents to modern technology and hence do not have a gps.
I have seen Your house in Sigean on photos, where do You keep all the goats, sheeps and camels?
Something as a trade is posted. (I know I did not have to but it is more fun that way)
Ha ha ha! I thought You mad a joke about the African Reserve but when googling it up.......hmm...or did You just make that internetsite while writing to me?! ;)
Now... off to the drawing table. (It turned out that the bikers were just a three year old boy waiting outside with his tricycle bike, probably smelled the newly baked cinnamon rolls from our appartment)
Well, I didn't find it per se....I made it up...The actual album is a very funny Mantovani record which seems to be inhabited by miniaturized people. And yes, there is a record inside which you should be able to access by taking an exacto knife and running it neatly down the edge. Alas, it's not Abbe Lane but I'll let you discover what it is on your own. Abbe Lane, btw, is still alive as far as I know. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope the exhibition was a big success.
Thank you for your advice, very much appreciated, although I must add that I am concentrating completely on the art and I never compromise my creativity for the sake of commercialism. Sure on my website I offer some work for sale (as do you) but this is only done as a means to support my creativity. Anyone is very welcome to partake in my latest project and receive some free artwork. However some people out there are not mail artists and may be more interested in simply buying some work or helping to support my material costs.
As for the 'security' theme of my latest work, this is my artistic take on the security industry informed by my experience as a security guard based in an art studio. It's not meant to be taken completely seriously and my humour is rather tongue in cheek.
I would a shame if I were to get banned from IUOMA as I am truly interested in international creative exchanges and I see mail art as one way of giving something back to the world in which I'm fortunate enough to practice something that I love.
I hope you understand, and thank you for your time.
Bon weekend? Me waiting for midnight to start Greek Easter celebrations which will go on all week as usual...lots of "souvala"...lamb,wine, goat, wine, kokoretsi,Easter bread, wine...all this goooood stuff!
Glad you got ALL the mail art:-) And are you off to the UK, again?
Well, no hurry to reply, just enjoy your trip to Darlington (?)
Jean Pierre Leaud was an amazing actor, I love him in all those Truffaut films, but there's a picture of him online that scares me to death. Anyway, thanks so much for the card, it's nice to see the movie poster in French.
No worries Val, I'm sure i can forgive you a little misunderstanding. That's a lot of stamps. They're just about to put the price up here in the UK, as I'm sure you've heard, not the best news ever. Not too much to be done about that, just make some art I suppose...
Catch you again in the future no doubt and good luck with your exhibition.
Sent another Sigean envelope last week to cover my fine and will be sending my third sometime this week to cover any future infractions...it'll be like $ in the bank ;)
Hello my dear Valentine! Great card in my NEW mail box! And it fits (as the other box only can take letters and postcards) Will make blog ;-) Also, last night was the opening of the Gallery of Colors" and there were your colorful and full of colors...lino prints xxx thanks!

As you wish, Val! I thought your upstairs room was your artspace? That doesn't sound very peripatetic to me? Join and leave later, that's ok.
Do you need any help with your exhibitions? Anything I can do from here? I'll send another envo if you like.
