Kalimera DEAR friend! Val-the-Joker is very, very appropriate ;-)

Shall be communicating with you here, dear boy. And I bet my

mail art from Greece arrives faster in your mail box than one of the cards you send to yourself! (Must be the attraction of the international postage stamps)!

    See ya in-the-mail soon! xx

Thanks. I quit smoking in 1962 and am so glad I did !  Surgery is at 9.30 am Thursday. I will tell my surgeon what is going on.  Yes I am smiling.  " )
  • you're just a really popular zombie methinks.

some people are more social hubs than others - you tend to be a rather central one.

    you needn't add much before passing them along, just try to find new folks to pass them to;

then they won't be running in the same highways.

i've stopped mailing these quite a while ago.

there are about 60 in circulation.

  • jon foster

It is nice being back in the "civilized" world, getting back to work, going to buy groceries etc. I'm sure that in a week or two I'll be completely bored with my civilized lifestyle.

Oh by the way, I just had a friend get interested in IUOMA and told here that she should for sure send you some stuff...just giving you a heads up since you're the ambassador for all of the new people.

    Talk with you soon.

  • yulia

Hello Valentine! Thanks a lot for your postcard and for introducing to all your brothers and sisters. I'll send you something back soon.

  • mabb

Hi, Val!  I know you are super busy with your exhibitions, but I have a question, and you are my mentor (cause I joined in July) and I don't know where else to turn - sob!  (:)  I posted my first blog entry today, and on the side bar of the IOUMA main page, it is showing as posted by "me."  But on my blog, it shows mabb.  ?  No rush;  people will click on "me" and find out who that is.  And if you want to cast me off to someone else, I can take it!
  • mabb

No, I mean I joined in June...see below...
  • mabb

LOL x 10!  Okay, now, let's stop laughing.  I will explain the problem to you again, and don't try pretending that you don't understand English.  I already know that you are an Englishman in French clothing!  (Or a Dutchman?  Anyway, your English is pretty darn good, whatever you are.)

If you go to the Main IOUMA page, you will see on the left side "Blog Posts," where members post from their IOUMA blogs.  Underneath the title of each post is a line that starts "Posted by..."  and it shows who posted it - the member's name.  BUT mine are showing up as "Posted by me" instead of by "mabb."

Do you understand?  Yes, I will go to Ruud, if you don't hold the key to this mystery.  Before I do that, though, can you please ask your cats about it?  Don't you think they should be doing more than playing for their food and keep?

    Thank you, O Wise Mentor!

  • mabb

    Big OOOOPSSS!
My face is on fire (ouch!) 'cause I am so embarrassed!  Angie has informed me that "me" will show up because I am posting it, but others will see "mabb."  !!!!!!!!

So, do a happy dance, Wise Mentor, because you are off the hook!  And your cats are, too!  They continue to eat and play for free!

  • mabb

Hello, Val!  Yes, mabb are my initials, and I use them as a tribute to my #1 idol, Queen Mab, Queen of all the Faeries in the World!  In Irish lit, she is quite a dame to reckon with!  In A Midsummer's Night Dream, she's just plain dreamy and elegant.  (There, she goes by the moniker Titiana.  Her husband, Oberon, ain't bad either!)

I must go out and about in the real world today, alas, so will not be able to chat further with you.  I did want to discuss Snooky's earth-shaking revelation (yes, the earth really did shake here yesterday!) about "me" v. "mabb,"  which had me laughing the rest of the day at my obtuseness.  He's obviously a braniac, and, um, I think, if you don't mind, he's going to be, um, er........my new mentor....but I still like you, Val!  Don't be hurt!  You do understand, don't you?

Au revoir, and have a bon jour!  mabb :)

  • Neil Gordon

Thanks Val! Can't wait! Whatever you send will be gratefully appreciated!!!!! I read the email about the iouma decluttering, i feel your pain,I hope we can keep in touch via snail mail(Luddites RULE!) or by internet. Life is cluttered enough. We need to hear the words behind the music. As John Lennon said;" All i want is the truth." Rock On! Neil Gordon

P.S: Enjoying Stones&Everly Bro's collages! Can't wait to see your other art pieces!!!!

  • Jen Staggs

Thank you for the latest post- my mailbox has been dreadfully lonely of late, thank you for ending the dry spell! (I know I must send to receive.  I've been naughty and unproductive on the art-making front.)  But good news: my thesis has been approved for graduation, so that explains my artlessness.  Lots of art history writing happening, not much art-faction.  Onward.
  • Tomoe N

    Bonjour Valentine,
Thank you for letting me know that you got my mail. Actually I had a little trouble with the cat (it's a cat!) clip on the postcard. The guy thought I was not supposed to pot a clip on a card, but he called some office to make sure, and said, all I was supposed to do was it should not be fell off so that nobody hearts. So I put extra tape on it and I could send. So I was little worried if you get it safe. And I am glad. He said in Japan it is ok, but some foreign countries they concern more safety of mails, so he was little worried.

No I am not doing good sell my paintings yet, though I will join my former school auction in San Francisco USA on November, selling a couple of my paintings that they selected. I have not really tried approaching to Japanese galleries yet, since I want to be back to San Fran, and have been approaching overseas more than Japan.
I am not too good with art business part. I want some agent to help me myself.
Thank you. I will look forward your mail. Mine was the reply from the last one you sent me during the after earthquake shock though.

Over here in Japan it is still very hot.
I hope you have a good coming fall.
    Tomoe

    >Bonjour Tomoe! Thank you for the very nice 'Abstract Cosmos' card that arrived here safely this morning: great stuff. And I liked the dog paper clip on the back of it. Are you having any success in selling your art? I hope so. (If you want to be my Japanese agent and sell some of my art, I'm sure that we could work something out).
I'll be mailing you something back at the start of next week.
    Thanks again, and....Bon Weekend.
    Regards, JE Sweefoo

Thesis is about propaganda images of Rosie the Riveter and American WWII women working on the home-front.  I wanted to write about pin-ups but they weren't really that academic.  I will hopefully receive a Master's degree for all my troubles.  But probably no job since no one really needs a brain full of useless knowledge these days. waaaahhh.
  • Neil Gordon

VAL! Thanks for the post marks!Zig-Zag roses! Hope your well and see you in the mail! Neil Gordon

  • Mim Golub Scalin

Hola (I should be brushing up on my francais but clase de espanol starts soon.) We'll be in Paris January and February 2012 with a few days in Barcelona for our anniversary end of January. I'm so happy about this trip, as I didn't think we'd get to do this again. I say that every time, but one time it'll be true. I think Dean and Vanessa were on holiday, thus the silence. Glad you liked the hand. I did, too. 1965 Life magazine advert. very cool.   Mica is still visiting, our niece (an adult) just came by after work, Noah will come after he finishes his work day, such a gathering of the clan, and we'll all go out to dine together.

    Ciao for now, mim

ps don't you think we should have IUOMA membership cards? I think so. I'm going to contact Ruud about that. JE SweeErrew

  • Caroline Krabbe

Dear Valentine, your postcard arrived today! It is super. Thank you very much for participating in our art postcard exhibition. Kind regards from Caroline Krabbe
  • Bifidus Jones

bonjour Val, glad you got the card--I thought the brand name was funny in terms of British slang  meaning to steal, that is to say, nick a whiskey. would to god I could be in France for the new wine. alas...
  • Alicia Starr

    get bail? do tell.
  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

    Hi Val,

Back to Paris and found two delightful slides Art from you.  I really love the cube au pot one.  Brilliant! Or should I say BrillArt.  The other slide requires work on my part so I am not sure the results will be as good as yours.  I have boxes and boxes of slides in our cave of when I lived in Germany. (Mostly boring snap shots … I was young and it was my first camera.)  However they are the paper kind and not the fancy plastic ones like you have.  I’m still thinking about what to do with them.  Eg. shower curtain, lamp shade, floor tiles, ceiling fan, my ideas are endless.  But yes, I might try to include some in my mail Art.

We found quite a few places for sale in the Nice area.  The Villa Ephrussi-de-Rothschild was a front runner, but Vanessa says there are too many windows to wash and many of them require a long ladder.  In any case, this is the area on the top of the list.  There is a lot less wind than the other places in France.

Happy the slate made it.  The “Southern” lady at the post office in Vence told me that I could not send it without an envelope.  I said, don’t worry I won’t.  Then took it to Nice and mailed it from there!  I Love France.

My guess is the Fan Club made it to your mailbox, but you are refusing to comment on it … sorry, but it was just too good to pass up.

    Bye for now, Dean

  • Bifidus Jones

    good one!
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Bonjour Valentine! Any Post Office Stories in your mail box yet? I hope there was enough postage on the package...let me know :-0

  • Amy Irwen

    Just saying "HI!" Friend.... *-*
  • jon foster

I was really excited to go a bunch of old Rolling Stone's but most of the things I made out of them was kind of terrible. The paper in those magazines isn't very good. It dosen't help that there were very few pictures...I need pictures now.

Tomorrow is my one year anniversary on IUOMA and I have sent you the most cards, by far over that year. I think I'm closing in on twenty five cards. Later this evening I'm going to count how many things I've sent since joining.

Glad to be sending back and forth with you.

  • cheryl penn

I am relieved to report that I am staring at FOUR envelopes addressed to you :-) X
