Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
I like communication, art, paper, painting and concepts. The ideal combination for doing Mail-Art. Worked with rubberstamps as a child and started sending out letters as soon as I could write. Discovered that it was called mail-art in 1980. Have been discovering ever since and in the last years also promoting this free cultural exchange.

    Thank you Ruud to let me know you are sending me a letter. I am looking forward to it!

    I have never heard post office has a strike in Japan. Is it a public or private? In Japan, until a couple of years ago, it belongs to a government, so there has not been affected any economic problems, but off course nowadays, people sending emails, so there are less snail mails sending. But in Japan people sending New Year's cards (instead of Western Christmas cards) to cerebrate new year. We go to shrines on the new year days. Just a little cultural tip. ;)

    Oh yes! I know very well about postal workers on strike...and railroad workers,...and teachers....and doctors...even policemen. They go on strike, that is what you do in a "Greek Democracy"! Hope the workers can come to a good arrangement, working hours? salaries? coffee break time? when to go out for a souvlaki?

    And thank you so much for this envelope full of good IUOMA things! and in Chinese!!! Will be on the look out for mail artists from China. And I shall be sending you some rubber/eraser stamps too! All the best, Katerina

    Ruud: We won't bother you with too many facts here. In any group, when decisions are made, anybody with a serious concern may feel let down. I had one address at outset. That address was removed the second day after beginning here. This was due to our mail handler deciding to take a sudden and extended break, possibly to leave our studio membership for good.

     

    Brent may feel it is his right or prerogative to self-promote here. That is fine for some. My friends and I asked at the beginning for our first clue as to what to expect after becoming a part of IUOMA. Our studio includes different people with different ideas. We discuss and put issues to a vote before doing anything. 

    I have just left a new comment over at Jen Stagg's on this subject. It may help to look it over. 

    Sorry to be so blunt earlier. You see, when all is new and no one is explaining how things are meant to work, there can be a little confusion about what to expect. 

    The former address was not listed for even 24 hours--barely overnight. Brent's idea was to send off something using that address. I had never heard of his work, nor been introduced to the idea he would like to trade. And the person whose address it is was genuinely surprised, and even a little alarmed. what else might end up in the mail the same way? What is to be expected? With a family member unwell, and another quite elderly and in poor condition, this person might not wish to be bothered by the personal contact involved. In fact, that is just what has happened. There was confusion about what was expected and how it might take shape. I'm afraid there's more to it than that. But i won't take up any more of your time. It is hoped our former member who was so badly shaken may come around soon, with apology, to explain.

    I will try not to bother you again on this issue or any other matter.

    An additional idea for you:

    No one may PM another member before being accepted as that member's IUOMA Friend. Right?

    It is easy to see where new persons here would be apt to see this same idea applied to their personal home mail. So you see, we had the inclination no trades would start before our acceptance.

    in fact, speaking for at least 4 of us, no one would have said no to Brent's idea of a new trade--IF he had let us see that is what he wished.

    Very simple, no?

    Anyway, thanks for your time and patience.

    Let's hope all will be resolved peaceably soon.
