Karen - I wondered why I never got the piece you said you sent - now Kiera says she has it :-( Lucky her unlucky me. Hope you are keeping well. I posted you something on Friday.
Karen,
I received your collage! It's funny because last night I was reading an article about Kurt Schwitters and today I have this very Schwitteresque piece in my mailbox. Thank you.
Dave
check out the article about him in the current NY Review of Books...I never knew that much about him...interesting character...an art movement unto himself...(much like the rest of us, I guess).
yes, Santo said the Cubs kept him alive. He suffered from diabetes since 18! I wish he could have seen the Cubs win the World Series. I wish I can see the Cubs win it! My aunt in Chicago is a amazing Cub fan and she is waiting...she is 93 this year!
Once a Cubs maniac, always a Cubs maniac! I used to cut classes at Loyola U. and go with a few classmates to see a game...I think there were no night games because no lights! :-) I am still always eager to hear how da Cubs are doing. Now with internet, it is so easy!
Karen! I got your envelope. Not only do I like it a lot, but I was also touched by what your wrote on the back of it, it means a lot to me. thank you...
Just finished that Dark card you wanted. I figured anything inspired by the My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult's song "After the Flesh" would qualify as at least semi-dark =). It's going out with Saturday's mail.
Yeah, we got hammered. I was supposed to go to the Vikings game to watch them hammer the NY Giants but the Metrodome where they play collapsed early this morning. There was no mail delivery yesterday and there might not be any tomorrow (a mail art junky's nightmare, believe me) either since a lot of streets in St. Paul haven't been plowed yet. A good time to make more mail art! Take care, Bifidus
:-) 'Glad it arrived, and let be discovered tomorrow as it is probably the mail art marked 28/365? Stamped for December 28...(me working with "365" a bit in advance so you may receive it for the holidays! ) and keep a look-out for yet another new "haptic": "Coming to select mailboxes in your area soon"!
The most striking thing about these old Times is their all-encompassing cold war paranoia. That, and the odd ads for manufacturers (air conditioners, obscure mechanical devices, etc) which tells a tale about post-war America. We used to make things back then. The covers are really the best though. Illustrated portraits not photographs. The handful I have from the 70s are so flat and unremarkable in their desire to be contemporary. The covers from the 50s, on the other hand, are like your grandfather's watch, well-made, stolid, serious business.
