Thanks Samantha, your surprise is in the mail

My holidays went well - under the radar! We'll have a quiet new year's weekend to boot. Mail art, me? I had taken a workshop about mail art, artistamps, etc., and started sending out art. I know everyone at my local post office now! And you?
  • karen c

Coincidence? Look on page 110, Good Mail Day. The authors, Jennie and Carolee, are from the Bay Area as well, and they put out a call for entries for their book. Wonderful, talented, brilliant women they are. You'll find just about anything you want to know about mail art in GMD. Still have questions? Just post and I'm sure you'll hear from the masses.

I am glad it came without being torn up in the mail, Happy 2010

well blogspot is one blog provider, there are tons others and they all encompass blogland. any blog is part of blogland. it's just a term for blogs and how it's like it's own little world. posse out.

Hi Sam - Didn't know you were here. Looks like you are well on your mail art journey now. Welcome to IUOMA. I posted your art yesterday on the Heebee Jeebeeland blog - did you get to see it? I sometimes take a little liberty to enhance the Art displayed there. I hope you didn't mind that too terribly much. Your lovely art made for some interesting story telling too. Cheers, my friend.
  • Parys St. Martin

Thanks for the wonderful surprise I got today, all that color and stuff, I loved it.

  • Judy Skolnick

I just send the mail art to calls, I post the photos on my page, no blog
  • Lorraine Kwan

Nice to know it arrived, hope your mailbox is filling up with lots of surprises.
  • Judy Skolnick

Thanks for the photo and comments, I do not post my mailart, I send it out to as many calls as possible and sometimes they post it on my page or on their blogs where I can enjoy looking at every artist creativity.
  • Test Tower

Hi Sam, Did you notice I posted an outgoing piece of Mail Art on the blog? That wouldn't have happened unless you had mentioned it to me. So, I guess a sort of thank you is in order. Thanks kiddo! I'll keep that notion in mind - but as you see below (and I am inclined to agree with Judy) some folks just don't like showing off like that. I thought that was a noble notion, but I can see that is debatable. The best thing about Mail Art is that there are no rules!
  • karen c

Hi Samantha - thank you so much for the postal surprise! Enjoying your artwork and musings....take good care.
  • Parys St. Martin

Thanks Samantha....i look forward to receiving it :)

    LIMITE, SCAMBIO, SEGNO
    LIMIT, EXCHANGE, SIGN
A tribute for the city of Portogruaro through a project involving art through mail. The keywords chosen as the theme are the motif of its foundation, joined in a common flow.

    Limit
    border between earth and water,
the river harbor and the trade routes,
the channels and the gardens of the palaces,
a constant reference to a change in system, material and colour.

    Exchange
not only of goods but also of colours and scents,
    artistic and architectural influences,
    mutual knowledge, therefore culture.

    Sign
a condition of consent expressed in gesture, the conclusion of an agreement,
a trace superimposed on many others:
whose meaning is beyond the sum of the parts.

Project by Rizoo Group, Tiziana Baracchi and Pro Loco di Portogruaro
    Format and dimension of work:

  • Rachel Freeman

Great! I am looking forward to getting your mail! I tend to get my mail ready but am slow to get things to the post office...by the time I go I have a huge pile of mail to send which I am sure is irritating to anyone behind me in line!

  • Sophie Frostbite

    Let's trade mail artt?
  • Sophie Frostbite

I'm still calling for Harry Potter mail art, but you're welcome to send me something with any theme. Some other things I like are steampunks, cute cartoons, rainbows, Lady Gaga, riot grrrl stuff, or any hand-drawn/hand painted stuff. Or whatever else you'd like, those are just a few suggestions if you're stuck. What kinds of stuff are you looking for? :o
  • Judy Skolnick

This is the U.S. Postal Museum part of the U.S. Post Office Archives and they are in Washington, DC. It was the first mailart show for them. They archived the works. So far they have not had another it was a workshop open to the public and they provided the stamps, papers, pens etc.
  • carolina becker simoes saidenber

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Thank you, Samantha, your mail art came along with a card from Marianne, and there was no return adress, so I was wondering who sent it. The poor sleeve was torn and perhaps some things were lost, but your "happy thoughts" survived! Many thanks!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Very nice "happy" collage. Thank you!

  • Clifford Duffy

Samantha I am pretty new at this as I am an inveterate blogger and poet in other genres... and am trying to get some postcards ready to mail off thanks for the comment! have a great day
  • Naomi Healing

Thank you for the wonderful surprises! I savored every aspect from the envelope everything came in to the handmade envelope within. Your beading pattern was elegant and calming. You are a wonderful mail-art pen-friend, and I am very fortunate you friended me here and that I get to enjoy exchanging with you. Something will be on its way to you soon - oh dear, will it still be a surprise if you know it's coming?
  • Kathy Brunner

Hi...I'm glad you like the character...she's "Judy Moody" from a childrens series of books that I enjoy reading...I can't take credit for the sketch...:):):)

yay you received my hearts! glade you enjoyed.

as for the sticker label on my journal, it's from an old school label maker. the ones that the letters get punched onto the sticker part. i've had that label maker forever, actually since childhood. but i think you can still buy them in stores...

    take care!

Your funny..are you a chronic picture changer? I my face to be in art..and have people point it out..more then just showing who I am..being a big time artist..I think I am the dark to the actors light.
  • Jenn Grosso

    hello!
  • Jenn Grosso

yes i do make my eensy weensy envelops myself, and carved the itty bitty stamps that you see (wasn't easy i tell ya). i'll be posting info on my teeny tiny itty bitty project soon, will let you know when the info is up.

i have dabbled in photography for some time now. nothing professional, just playing. i have a good camera (canon rebel) and edit my pics in photoshop. i take lots of pics of the art i do and my creative process for my art blog, so getting better with practice ;)

thanks for the compliments! see you in the mail very soon!!!

ha ha, well i have two secrets to fabulous envelops... the first is a paper punch that punches a little envelop that you fold and glue - voila easy peasy. and my second secret is that i create little cardboard templates so i get even envelops every time. i'll draw out an envelop form and fold it and experiment with it until it's how i want it, then i trace it on cardboard and cut it out - template! but i've seen that you can buy such templates at michaels, they come in plastic i think... like stencils that you trace on paper and cut out... endless stuff out there!
  • Jenn Grosso

another idea is to open an envelop that you have (open it completely even the glued parts) and trace it on cardboard to create your template... then no crooked uneven corners! yipeeee!!! and if you want to make it bigger smaller, just trace it again smaller or bigger adjusting the dimensions. trickier but has worked real good for me in the past. good luck!
  • Human Artist Vending Machine LTD

I am willing to take photographs ..and draw from them....I would like that your fine for me drawing your photograph..in writing..I want to right to keep the picture..and draw from it..in my whims..My co-worker allowed me to do that..and each picture I have done with her..hasn't turned out to look 100% like her..but I have done other people and it works out fine..so I don't like to make promises..But the pictures I drew of her..are cool..either way..
I just finished a picture of Katerina Nikoltsou ..and I feel it turned out well..when I send it to her..I hope she will agree..If not ..I will just have a long and hard art cry..and get back to work..!
  • Paulo Correia

    Nice to meet you
  • David Aronson

Yeah--I'm pretty sure I'm on that site. I've been doing mail art for over ten years, but it never occurred to me to join iuoma. Go figure... :-)
  • Sophie Frostbite

Hey! I did get your mail art! Sorry I haven't replied in forever, my computer doesn't let me log onto IUOMA. D: Did you like the postcard I sent you? I'll send you some more stuff next week - I would be delighted to combine mail-arting with penpalling-friend-esque things. :D Also, thanks for sending me that link, I'm gonna try my luck at making one!
  • David Aronson

Cool--glad you're having fun with mail art. I work in a lot of different mediums. I'm actually a professional illustrator/painter. If you want to see the full scope of my work, check out my site: http://www.alchemicalwedding.com
