Smiles & Smirks

Art with a measure of humour is required by Walmarth Corporation for its chain of supermarkets, located in the Queendom of Retailia and in Cascadia Artpost. Through this collaboration Cascadia Artpost and Mail Art Martha are continuing to give impulse to Trashpo, the artistic vision of Diane Keys.

‘Walmarth Corporation is an entertaining and witty parody of corporate, consumer culture. Cascadia Artpost’s painstaking realization of Mail Art Martha’s ideas through detailed, special effects style models makes Walmarth Corporation one of the crowning achievements of Trashpo in the half-decade that it has been producing a large quantity of art.’

In addition to Trashpo the Corporation has now expanded to include political satire, parody, comics, caricature and witty playfulness.
Your contribution is needed to fill the shelves.

thanks for pointing me to this cool group. but the name slightly alarms me - smiles and smirks?

  • Mail Art Martha

Don't be alarmed, smirks are only directed to politicians! You are safe.

I remember the kid, some TV series but which?

We've already had a glimpse of Foldilope 15, but here's another look. My copy contained a little booklet of Late Winter Haiku as well as Valentine greetings. Yes, I'm late in posting this --- I've had it for a week or two --- but better late than whenever!

Also, the Tiger linocut is wonderful! Thanks, Martha.

This outstanding rendition of a feline farmer from Tasmania is from my new friend Pam Parks. Thank you Pam!The subject's expression is difficult to interpret but I think this hard working Cat might have seen a Tasmanian Devil walking nonchalantly across a field, with the consequent shocked reaction depicted so brilliantly on his face and even showing a touch of defiance by sticking his tongue at the beast.  Its beauty has rendered me speechless!

  • Fleur Helsingor

I picked up my mail art yesterday and was delighted to find a Foldilope from Mail Art Martha! One of the goodies inside was this charming book of sketches.

Martha was born in the Lunar Year of the Tiger and this issue features the small tigers that have been a part of her life, including one beauty that shares my own given name!

Hoping this week for mail art delivery...nothing since July29!

"Maybe now there is something in the mailbox..."

    But waving to the Queen,

and keeping "spirits high" with Snoopy:

Our Postal workers are revolting against measures which will give them a meagre increase in salary in exchange for worse working conditions. Kevin our lovely postperson has told me that it will not affect my outgoing post. That is the good news, but the deliveries will be affected. So I will be like Charlie Brown!

By the way, the Queen is a jolly good fellow with a great sense of humour.

I wish she were really running the country instead of that bunch of nincompoops!
