i created the front of the flyer for the add & pass zombie encyclopedia,

it's non-project specific so i can re-use it in further Mail of the Living Dead projects as well. I'll put the specifics on the rear, along with signature boxes, so we know who contributes to each chapter.

back when i started work on the digital stuff, i was playing with zipf's law and creating what i called asemic texts using computer generation. i've finally gone back to it, hoever temporarily, today - using names of computer virii for input "words" to the generator. I did this because i had the idea of paranoia of computer virii being one of the many, many possible mass-paranoias which can be "mapped" onto zombie films and zombie stories. much the way children use fairy tales to work out their inner mental structures, their conceptions of the world at large. certainly we have many of these mass-paranoias, swine flu epidemic being one of the more recent ones, the economy is very present as well. can you think of any others???

How do I fear? Let me count the ways.....

I do see a strange kind of paranoia concerning food. There are whole cults out there advocating the consumption of only "pure spring water" since any water with additives is not "natural" to the body. Of course the source of these groups is usually someone benefitting from the sale of the so-called pure water, but it's unnerving to see folks I always thought of sensible driving 50 miles or more with their "pure glass" containers to purchase unadulterated water. Or having it delivered 1200 miles across the country. Some of these same people have got it in their head that foods or liquids derived from unfamiliar South American plants are more healthful than any fruits grown in the U.S. because of commercial fertilizer, corporate farming techniques, etc. I don't think I've seen a well-plotted story based on this particular paranoia yet - it would definitely overlay well with zombies.

Me personally - I'm terrified of the ubiquitous "telephone elbows" and "rear view mascara applicators" I see every day on the way to work while cruising at 70 on a crowded freeway.

marcia, i know what you mean!

not just water, but nearly any sort of food intake has the ability to take on these sort of cult followings. soybeans, grains, even vegetables. there's people my wife was telling me she read an article about who insist on eating a diet of nearly all meat! and i agree, they are something like a virus. people read an article or two and it seems to get inside your head and even if you think it sounds crazy, it still runs circles through your mind now and then i think. it reminds me of the japanese snow monkeys who have a very social way of dealing with food. they copy one another in trying new approaches with dietary habits. i think when we watched a documentary on them it was focused on one monkey dipping his food in the salt water, and then the others started doing it as well after watching the first.

 

i tend to stay out of the car, but even there i agree with you after almost being run over on my bicycle several times due to cell phone users. :-/

I think I saw that thing on snow monkeys. Recently heard about some virus or bacteria that infects the brain of an ant - makes it stop "following the herd" while said virus eats its brain, then the ant dies. Not sure how it's transmitted.

The "food cult" stuff makes me think of a scenario where everybody thinks the fluoride is turning you into a zombie (some think so already) so people en masse turn to some other source and later it turns out the new source is the real source of zombieism(?) and the fluoride was actually the vaccination against it. Bwa Ha Ha. Or maybe it's the glass container that's got the virus. And then the virus in the cel phone attacks the body not through the ear as first suspected, but begins control with the hand, spreads to thumbs (texting), then to elbow (holding against ear), then to shoulders and neck (cel phone photography) Example  - who's controlling who in this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-izIwqrBGjY&feature=player_embedded

if it's the thing my wife told me about, it's actually a fungus i think.

and it "reanimates" the ant after it dies, it crawls around for a while but isn't alive anymore.

i think that video was a lot trippier before the final message. they should have left it off, and just had the film speak for itself!

oh duh, okay now I get the order:) I had it sort of right, but sorta doesn't count anywhere. Excellent piece. Is it printed in all one piece and then divided? This would look great as a huge poster-should really be a movie poster . now I see the 3D glasses-which should ship within the week I like the dude with the flip top head and guyliner. your digital pieces are really excellent have to look very closely to catch all the details.  Also SH-got the encyclopedia today this is going to be fun. I've never made zombies before--just lived with one for a lot of years:)

i split it up digitally.

the actual image resolution is 12x6, then split into (3 * 4) x 6 fo printing on 4x6 sheets.

i played with double panes, then tried triple and i like the format so i may stick to it for a while.

it's possible i'll try a 5 piece sometime, but i will probably need more computer memory for that!

SH am I to fill up all 8 pages? so wish I had  printer like you do most of my zombie material are photos.
