Some breakthrough pieces there, Kerri, IMHO. Can I repost some of these at M-L? I'll give Michael J (not Jackson) first pick, but then I'd like to use some of them.

  • Kerri Pullo

Of course DVS! ...and you get first pick!

  • Guido Vermeulen

John Bennett sent me clippings of newspapers and asked me to use them, here are the results in a fold out artist booklet that will be returned to him soon

  • John M. Bennett

    Fantastic, Guido! thank you,

    john

  • Kerri Pullo

    That's beautiful Guido and John!

Digital vispo/asemic collab: Moan Lisa, Kerri Pullo, DVS

  • Rebecca Guyver

    Great collab!

  • De Villo Sloan

Moan Lisa would be the guiding force on that one. Kerri's "Asemic Mom" makes a ghostly appearance.

If I don't receive any strong objections, I'm going to re-post the Guido/JMB collab at M-L. Those are great pieces, IMHO.

The Lemonhound blog (a really good literary blog btw) has published an in-depth interview with our own Kerri Pullo. It is an amazing read! Kerri discusses asemics, her artistic process & influences, IUOMA & our humble group!, mail-art, etc. etc. Some great examples of her work included. Just an extraordinary honest & articulate interview. Congrats to Kerri & thanks.

    Thanks so much DVS :)

Received vispo from Moan Lisa w/ asemics. Moan does a lot of "quoting: here. I recognize pieces of mine & Carl Baker's (above) integrated into the work. I think that's great!

Received asemics-vispo using Arabic text from E. Coles (Bath, UK). Many thanks!

M-L has just re-issued ACCESS: A Journal of Post-Literature that features a long visual poem, "deep square wave structure," by Karl Kempton (who needs no introduction to vispo fans). Also included is an essay by Harry Polkinhorn. Karl's concrete poetry in ACCESS is amazing & with a good deal of historical value. He calls some of them typoglifs & they show how asemic glyphs can be composed.

Small asemics book collaboration between Kerri Pullo and I

Gave it the absurd(?) title: I shall invite you to lunch when the war is over, so I linked it to my 1914 2014 project, book to be returned to Kerri, 7-12

GUIDO!!!!! This is AMAZING!!!!! I am IN Love with it!

  • Rebecca Guyver

    Agree with Kerri. Very Beautiful!

  • Guido Vermeulen

Thanks Kerri and Rebecca. Here is another play between John Bennett and I. John mailed more newspaper cuttings. I mixed them with my cuttings and then added simple line drawings in black ink.

  • John M. Bennett

    Yow!  VERY nice, Guido!

  • Guido Vermeulen

Thanks John. Here is an example of eco city asemics, series of postcards on the yellow mellow walls of Barcelona, made by Peter Müller, Germany.

  • John M. Bennett

    About SWITCH

    1.

Switch is a double accordeon book.

One folded accordeon binds front & back cover 2gether by glue.

The second is only attached to the front at the other side of the cover but not to the back.

This implies you can add pages to both accordeon folds.

So inside the book you have 2 books with several pages.

You can see them apart, as duos or triptychs even or mix the pages in between.

I owe the concept of this artist book to Lavona Sherarts (USA).

It was one of the many books she showed me how to make during my sabbatical in 1997.

I glued pages of different sizes and shapes in the folds of both accordeons to create a contrast. So pages show you also a glimpse of other pages that follow.

On these pages are asemics made with torn newspapers, pieces of brown envelopes and some greenish paper. On top of that are line drawings in black ink, except on a few that show you only the collaged papers.

This is a bit similar to my second collaboration with John Bennett but on a smaller size.

I am mailing this artist book (1/1) to Cheryl Penn in South Africa as an exchange for her free verse book. Her productivity and creativity in various forms of expression continues to surprise and delight me.

    2.

I dedicate this book to the workers of the Delhaize group, a chain of supermarkets in Belgium. The CEO decided recently to lay off thousands of workers by closing supermarkets in local communities, not because they make a loss but because he wants a higher profit. This is the brave new world in which we all live in 2day.

Solidarité avec les travailleurs de Delhaize = solidarity with the workers of Delhaize.

These words are in the book but torn to pieces !

I hope that the Belgian trade unions will be able to show some teeth in September (after the summer holidays) and decide to « strike » back.

By the way the Delhaize group has an important chain of supermarkets in the USA 2. Brands are Food Lion, Bottom Dollar Food and Hannaford. Think twice before shopping there or working there in the first place UNLESS you have strong trade unions.
