ANOTHER THREE FROM KATERINA...WHO HAS AN ENDLESS SUPPLY, ME THINKS
1.Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, Milwaukee, WIS
"Within the 3 glass domes of the new conservatory (Katerina got the card in 1979). The 3 vegetation promoting climates of earth (and temperate and tropical) are maintained for the display of an international collection of flowers and plants in natural settings. Displays include a walk through desert and a tropical rain forest."
(And a walk out, I hope)
2. Hyatt Regency Dearborn, Fairlain, Michigan, WIS
"788 Guest Rooms and Suites. 2 Ballrooms. Meeting Facilities for 10 to 1,500 people. 4 Lounges. 4 Restaurants. Equal distance from downtown Detroit and Detroit Metropolitan Airport and adjacent to historic Henry Ford Museum and Greenland Village."
(And Lots of CAPITALS)
3. Winter Frolic Skating at Park, Rib Mountain in background, Wausau, WIS
"RELAX IN WISCONSIN Where Friends and Nature Meet."
Piotrków Voivodeship - one of the 49 voivodeships that existed between 1975 and 1998. The voivodeship was located in the central part of Poland, lying on flat land forming the southern part of the Mazowiecka Lowland, partly the northern part of the Lesser Poland Upland and to the west a small part of the Greater Poland Lowland. Postcard from 1976.
A 'GENERAL VIEW' OF THE VILLAGE OFGINESTAS, AUDE, FRANCE -- but you can't see much of the village, but there is lots of dried up grass and a leaning-over tree in the foreground, and in the middle a vineyard, and then....a bit of the village....and then mountains and sky; (1/10 for compoisition of Boring Postcard)
Radom - a city with county rights in central-eastern Poland, located on the Mleczna River. Despite being administratively part of the Mazovian Voivodeship, historically, culturally and ethnographically Radom and its region are an integral part of Lesser Poland. The largest urban center in the forks of the Vistula and Pilica rivers, the second largest city in the Mazovia province. Prior to 1795, it was a royal city in the Radom district of Sandomierskie province. In the Polish People's Republic, from 1975-1998 the seat of the Radom province authorities. Postcard from 1976.
Biala Podlaska - a city with county rights in eastern Poland, in Lublin Province, the seat of Biala County and Biala Podlaska Municipality. In 1975 Biala Podlaska became the capital of the province, which contributed to a doubling of its population in 20 years. After the administrative reform in 1999 it has the status of a city with county rights.
Christmas postcard from 1952. Printed during the Stalinist regime in Poland. It reflects the break with the Christian/Catholic character of these holidays. Therefore, attached is a photo of icebreakers on the ice-covered river.
Yes it is difficult to decide whether a Postcard is Boring or not. One (of a hotel, for example) may be; but a group of hotel postcards may not be. Please send me what you've got, and I'll give my 'expert' opinion on their Boring-ness. But, they must be commercially sold Postcards, and no collages, drawings etc can be put on them. Thanks; Val
Antoniuk - a residential area in the northern part of Bialystok. It includes residential neighborhoods: Przyjaźń (in the 20th century it existed as a separate settlement) and Sady Antoniukowskie, which are not administrative units. Since the mid-1960s the area has been developed with modernist blocks of flats. A postcard from 1971.
Christmas postcard sent in 1977. Another example of production during the communist era in Poland, when attempts were made to detach Christmas from its religious context. A postcard of a completely secular nature. But such postcards were also produced in Western capitalist countries.
LENINGRAD 1970 -- SOVIET ERA POSTCARDS, PART 3 (of 3) -- FROM ILYA SEMENKO-BASIN, AND THANKS FOR ALL OF THEM ILYA!
11. The Admiralty
12. Equestrian statue of Peter 1 (by E.M. Falconer)
13. The Neva
14. Pavilion of the Anichkov Palace15. Sphinx from Ancient Thebes, Egypt, on the University Embankment
(One thing I find strange about these Postcards -- and indeed many others from the Cold War era -- is the absence of people in them. Where ere the Soviet, Hungarian, Polish etc citizens, and why weren't they shown on the Postcards?)
Postcards from smaller towns in Poland during the communist period often showed new housing estates built up with blocks of flats. Two examples from the 1970s.
I hope you will enjoy the Group and become an acgive paticipant.
