Hello to all new members! I noticed some of you are kind of flooding with your numerous liking each day. However, it is not bad by itself, but think a little: isn't it better to communicate, to send message to active members and to exchange, than just like and like and like and hundreds of times like whatever you like, that's fine, but just your empty liking will not get you anywhere, and many of your liking are aimed at non-active members, so they will never even know you like what you liked. Hmmmgh... Get a grip on yourself. Message more, like less and that may introduce you to some real art exchange.

I am not all that active on this site, but isn't that at the very least partially the point of this site, aside from archiving? This comment is incredibly off putting. Liking a post is not about the person likely it "getting somewhere" it is about positivity and showing support. A little nudge that says, Hey i see your work and what your doing, and i like it. Honestly, the more i read your comment, the more enraged i get. "Aimed at non-active" members? Isn't someone likings someone's post that exact definition of active? They are participating in the site by "liking" a post which IS an option to do, they ARE contributing. "Get a grip on yourself"? There is so much EGO and ARROGENCE behind those words. I will stop now, but i must reiterate, this post is contradicting and counterintuitive to the spirit of Mail Art.

Thank you for writing this, Adam! I found Predrag's post quite off-putting as well, and not at all in keeping with the spirit that I have found here.  I'm very new here, and very new to mail art, just trying to find my way in this culture and community, and so thank you, Adam, for responding to Predrag's post the way you did. Cheers to all!

Hello!

I read Predrag's original comment and also Adam's and Matthew's comment too. Now I would like to add that I am actually using the internet mostly on my phone as I do not own a computer myself. Plus, my internet usage plan is quite limited monthly, not unlimited, so I have to save bandwidths as much as possible. Predrag actually knows this internet situation of mine too. My point for this discussion is that I check IUOMA main site and read everyone's posts everyday. So far, I can catch up, and I do not have to miss when other people post that they actually received mail art from me. But if many people start to post of likings only, while I understand they are showing support, I probably cannot catch up on IUOMA main site myself. I may actually start feel, kind of like, oh no... if you know what I mean, as I read all that on a small screen of my phone... and I do not think I am the only one with this kind of internet usage situation. So, I think I wish that people limit the likings themselves. I wish people only like what they especially like, not by liking everything they see everyday. The IUOMA site is for everyone under various internet usage situation, so I hope everyone understands it and kind of limit the usage of the IUOMA main site that everyone can see. Thank you for understanding.

Kiki's comment are really good and to the point. Not everyone is having a big desktop computer! And those waves of likes are stopping the speed of what we see on our little screens of mobile phones. I wrote, and I will repeat: it is more important to contact other artist, than just like or ''like'' their work. Because, if you post dozen of likes to some work which is 5 or 10 years old, what you will actually achieve? The maker of that particular work will not even know that you liked their work. So, what is the reason of non-stop liking? On many sites, that situation is simply called '' flooding'' ! Yes, you could like 100's of various works, that is not bad, it should be good! But, what if you like something what is like 10 years old, and the artist is not active any longer. OK, it is about technical architecture of this NING platform. New and old works are not separated. If you want to like old works, of non active members, it will just, in sheer numbers, make present-day comments ''down'' because hundreds of likes will SIMPLY PUSH DOWN the fresh comments. This site should have ''historical'' time-line where you can like OLD WORKS , and works should be in better arranged. Also what does it mean ''it is an option to do'' ?! Of course, there is such option, but if you are flooding and pushing down the new discussions with your likes of old works, it will just clogg down and block the stream of modern day discussions and comments. My post is, actually, very good for mail art, it is telling truth about the current situations. It is better to open write what we really think than just like and ''like'' what one like. It is easy to like, but don't block other people's way, because the site is not made for FLOODING of likes, it is made for current exchange of works and ideas. After many many years in Postal Art, I always supported other artists, exchange with them and encouraged and supported them to EXCHANGE in REALITY. BECAUSE the exchange in REALITY, THROUGH INTERNATIONAL POSTAL SYSTEM is much more important than somebody's like or not like or whatever you'd like to call. Yes, get a grip on yourself and do not block other people with endless liking, especially members with small cell-phones, small screens, and slow internet connections in small countries. Not everybody is living in USA and UK. Stop spreading your own ego and arrogance onto other members of this respectful site.  At the end, IT IS BETTER TO EXCHANGE ONCE IN REALITY THAN GIVE 1000 ''likes'' in VIRTUAL WORLD !

I like to disagree... LOL...
I like it when I get likes on my mailart, but I like it more when someone makes a comment...
Sometimes I see the person who gives a like and see if I can send them some art, other times I can't...
Sometimes see the likes or comments and ask to be my freind..
It's a difficult discussion, because it's impossible to aggree with all opinios...
for me iuoma is a great place to see mailart, find active projects, be part of ARt...
I use this forum and some other sites to see the calls and try to create and send my mailart, i used it to show the mailart that i received in my projects.
without the iouma, the likes, the comments the post i will be a bit lost to find people that wnat to share art...

Hello all,
May be my first reply here on IUOMA but I'm happy to be a part of it,and i wasn't aware about it- "likes", i was reading recent activity and Read this "for new members" so totally read it and I agree
I am also using IUOMA on my mobile and it's really not good to scroll lots of Updates on Just likes, rather we can keep up on comments or discussion made meanwhile:)
Thank you so much for the notice, I'll keep this in mind:)
Best wishes,
Hemang

After i talk with Predrag i understand better this point o view about the "flooding of like" and the problems that can be to people that don't have a pc and have limit internet.
Like i say before i love more to have a comment than a like...
