„Beginning-Goodbye-End-Beginning“
translated by Bettina Frank (Freiburg), Sabine Frank, Oliver Podlech (Tübingen)
This is the title of the Mailart project proclaimed by the “International Artist Initiative SPALTENSTEIN-PROJEKT” and the Deacon Institute for Social Professions – training school for care of the elderly in Friedrichshafen. The aim of this Mailart project is to give the public a different/new artistic view on themes like leaving the actual job, like a goodbye from a (beloved) person or a partnership, like a farewell from a lifespan or even the whole live but also the theme of a possible “afterward”. Reasons for such goodbyes are multifaceted and include dismissal, illness or death.
Artists of every age are invited to participate at this project. The deadline for the arrival of your works is November 30th 2012 (please use the postal service, do not send per email). The size is limited to the size of postcards (max. 14 x 21 cm / all techniques allowed). Please send beside your postal address also your email address, so that when can inform you immediately about receiving your works and about future exhibitions.
Like the previous Mailart project (exhibited in six different institutions so far), also this Mailart exhibition shall be displayed in several locations in and possibly also outside of Baden-Württemberg. Various institutions already showed interest in this Mailart exhibition and additionally in the development of own follow-up projects. Initial funding is provided by the Johannes-Ziegler-Foundation in Wilhelmsdorf.
The exhibition will be documented in a catalogue. All participants will receive the catalogue at their postal address by the end of 2013. By participation, all artists assign the copyrights (print and internet media) for their works to the “International Artist Initiative SPALTENSTEIN-PROJEKT”. According to Mailart custom the following saying is valid: “no profit, no jury, no return”. As a thank you, you will receive the catalogue.
