Event Description

Call for Art: The Denison Arts Council and the MK Gallery calls for mail art that incorporates imagery and themes (sugar skulls, skeletons imitating the living, ofrendas, papel picados) associated with Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead). All work should be created on heavy weight postcard, blank paper, or index cards measuring 3”X5” (7.6 cm X 12.7cm) or 4”X 6” (10.16 cm X 15.24 cm). Other surfaces are alright as long as they are of one of the measurements mentioned previously and it can be mailed. The imagery and/or words can be drawn, painted, collaged, or stamped on one side of the post card and the mailing address on the other side. Remember to place a stamp on your mail art piece. The mail art piece must be received no later than Monday, November 2 in order to be in the “Dia de Muertos 2020 Exhibit’. If you are not familiar with either mail art and/or imagery associated with Dia de Muertos look them up on the Internet. Look at the work of Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada (https://www.mexican-folk-art-guide.com/jose-guadalupe-posada.html#.XzXqBuhKiUk). Check out papel picados (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/307511480789243087/) with Day of the Dead themed imagery. Have fun! Keep it original! Sign it! Put a stamp on it! Mail it!
