Nice "tape-art", Hilary! Some time ago, in ,2014-2015 we did have a "CD" mail art project,
I painted with acrylic...blue, of course:"Clouds"
and Valentine Mark Herman in France does all kinds of art
on slides, cassette tapes, floppy discs, CDs , vinyl (he has a "group" here for "Vinyl Art")
some amazing things!
I do what I call "media-on-media." Basically: using things like paint paper stamps and such and applying them directly onto the media of the cassette tape, for starters! I am in love with cassette culture and mixtapes as a form of 90's era folk art-this cd idea, is just too good!!! Thank you for this post perhaps some day we might attempt an exchange, tape for disc??? It is also beautifully done.
I have not yet mailed out any tapes, but I do also do headphones, small musical instruments (a marocca, a cowbell, a children's sized xylaphone, also other media like my old flip phones, VHS tapes,
I just painted like 15c pairs of aviator glasses white for some reason...WHY? I got nothin')
I'm working slowly now with vinyl both the actual discs and all the beautiful paperwork and cardboard cover art.
Mail art loves music! Who was it made the rubberstamp in the 70's that reads "endless music?" I'll have to go check my files. Anyways, here are a couple pics of the 2 I'm just beginning to layer up with base coats! I make them down and dirty with neons and spatter-you in contrast are so elegant and you thus bring the whole concept and practice to a level I've not ventured into, I was a teen in the 90's so I'm still doing the garage rock aesthetic I guess...
