As I am sure you do not reminding, but I will remind you anyway, September 25 is St Hermann's Day, and I am sure that you would like to join me in celebrating my (sur)namesake's day.

St Hermann (1013-1054) was a German musician, poet (alas he could not spell and ended up with two 'n's at the end of his name) and mathematician. He would, of course, had been a Mail Artist, had postage stamps been available in the 11th century, but they weren't.

St Hermann had trouble distinguishing between the Roman numerals '1X' and 'X11', and very often confused the two.

In 1052, St Hermann celebrated Christmas Day on XXV 1X, and not XXV X11, and this year I would like to follow his example and wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The other days that you might to mark in your 2014 calender and get ready to celebrate are:

* 14 February, St Valentine's Day

* 25 April, St Mark's Day

Season's Greetings to y'all.

From Viviana (for which many thanks):

"The Benedictine monk known as variously as Hermannus Contractus, (Hermann der Lahme,Hermann the lame) Hermann von Reichenau was born in Swabia on July 18th 1013 to the lady Hiltrud and her husband the Swabian Count Wolfrat of Altshausen. He was crippled from birth and subject to severe paralysis. Aged 7 his parents placed him in the Benedictine monastery of Reichenau where the care of the brothers allowed his brilliance to flourish. He wrote on mathematics, astronomy, and music amongst other topics. Two very famous antiphons are attributed to him "Salve regina" and "Alma redemptoris mater" some doubt these attributions mostly because other works attributed to him are now known to be misattributions. On balance however it's rather more likely than not that the attribution is correct.He died in the monastery at Reichenau on September 24th 1054"

You can put 3 dates on your calender, Suus: 1VX II =Valentine, XXV V = Mark, & XXV 1X = Hermann.

Then you'll have 3 more Friends to read along with you.

WHY do you have an 'awfull lot' of friends in your toilet?

Or do you mean a lot of awfull friends in your toilet?

Or even an awfull lot of awfull trends in your toilet?

Leaving aside how they all fit in your toilet (no, we don't want the detaiuls, thank you very much), there must be some really strange goings on in Mokum's toilets.

(The date of my birthday is now classified information , and can only be gotten if the President decides to de-classify it.)
