I just sent 3 mail now. Every time they ask if there is only ‘a letter’, I answer ‘yes’ unless I enclose something bulky like a little box.

Writing “printed matter” would be a good idea.

Postage would be the same unless size is standard or the weigh is not heavy, but they make me to fill out a Customs form to write contents if it is not a letter. That’s kind of trouble.
I enclosed little trash of snack and folded origami or sometime box of cigarettes or matchbox so that makes bulky.

yes I also send with handmade envelopes with old maps or newspaper or something, or fixed recycle envelopes. One of the envelopes I sent today that I reused American envelope. They said they were going to fold, so that fit in the standard size. (Japanese and American standard size measurements are slightly different.)

Always good to send just flat mail art "as a letter",

or write on the envelope: "Printed Matter" and it goes with low postage :-)

I try to keep my mail art sendings "thin" and just up to 20 grams to pay only 1 euro for the stamp,

and Hellenic Post wants simple white envelopes, though i have successfully mailed recycled

folded magazine pages but the postal clerk does frown about them. ha!
