RECEIVED: Mail-Art from the Haptic Werewolf aka Erni Baer (Hamburg, Germany)

Mail-art by IUOMA member Erni Baer (Hamburg, Germany)

July 12, 2011 - Erni Baer has been an excellent mail-art friend for a year now. I am a great admirer of his collage work that is guided by the tradition of Kurt Schwitters. This solid, postcard-size piece reveals his talent. As his moniker indicates, he has emerged as a central figure in the Haptic Poetry group here at the IUOMA, founded by Bifidus Jones (Minnesota, USA). I have received some interesting haptic work from Erni Baer also but am still contending with camera challenges. Here is the reverse side:

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with Gilbert & George. Perhaps someone can fill me in. My bond with Erni Baer is strengthened by our mutual interest in the Beat Generation: Ginsberg, Kerouac, Burroughs, Corso etc. etc. I cannot stump Erni with any Beat knowledge I have. I must concede the best Beat scholar I know is in Hamburg, Germany. Thanks forward to this card, Erni. I look forward to more exchanges and adventures in the ether.

Beautiful altar. It's an interactive process-manifesting your desires, creating your reality. I know the Hindu do the same-serving dieties full meals . We give our Buddha frankincense, fresh flowers, etc.

on the subject of the true nature of reality and matter etc. I know there will be doubters, but I've long since given up caring if people think I'm crazy or not. We have had this phenomenon in our house for many years now, but don't call the tabloids. I'm thinking Erni might believe me on this one-knowing how powerful Gonesh is. We have this Gonesh statue in our house on an altar and give him as well as our buddha and other dieties, offerings. We give Gonesh Water and noticed in less than a week's time, the water would disappear. We attributed it to evaporation, even though that seemed unlikely. Refill it and the same thing happens. We've tried different cups etc. Now we have it in plastic and it still disappears within a week's time. Then decided to put milk, which would be much less likely to evaporate I think, and same thing. Disappears within a week's time. We have and are doing controls putting identical set ups in other places not offered to Gonesh. So, we are enjoying feeding Gonesh. He is not lactose intolerant apparently and quite thirsty.

Thanks for instruction on Maya - was not clear on it. I'm trying to get my camera situation straightened out - so much of your work is three-dimensional - even the cards are haptic in a sense. Can't document that with scans. Another case where people need to see the real work to fully know what's going on.

Isn't it Maya, Erni? Our stars rise and fall, and it matters little in the larger scheme of things. Are we seeing the emergence of Erni Baer Artist Trading Cards (ATCs)? What strikes me is how well-made these are. They're nice pieces in their own right - I like the materials as well as the work.

I think I'm commenting on the wrong Erni Baer blog - as it seems to be Erni Baer Day - but anyway, DK wrote haptic trashpo - I don't think those things have ever been combined that way, so there is  a new addition to our already cumbersome lexicon of meta-jargon or neo-jargon - it's becoming jargon-tic

I really do think Erni should be working for the Chamber of Commerce of Hamburg, because I love his haptic trash tour that he takes me on everytime I get mail like this from him. I keep everything I get. I love when people rework stuff I send them-got a great piece today that is mine cut up and pieced back together. My dream is always to keep that dialogue going back and forth reworking the same piece so will see if the paper can tolerate that kind of abuse. maybe throw the whole damn thing in a blender and make it into handmade paper
