RECEIVED: Haptic Mail-Art by Katerina Nikoltsou & State of Sandpo Address (Thessaloniki, Greece)

Mail-art by IUOMA member Katerina Nikoltsou (Thessaloniki, Greece)

April 11, 2011 - Katerina Nikoltsou is a prolific mail-artist. I have been receiving tremendous asemic and haptic work from her regularly as well as collaborative book chapters. For this posting, I've combined two separate mailings.

Haptic poetry concentrates on the senses of touch and smell, as opposed to the purely visual. A newly created form of haptic poetry is sandpo: haptic poetry that uses sand (the definition has also been expanded to include work that uses representations of sand). Katerina is doing haptic pieces that use sandpaper = sandpo. As you can see, they are wonderful collages in addition to being extremely tactile. Katerina also uses fantastic stamps:

I was thrilled to receive these pieces. Every aspect demonstrates a very high standard of mail-art. Since I began exchanging work with Katerina, I have been trying to collect as many of her Fluxus Greece stamps as possible. The collection is growing, and I can't seem to get enough. Please keep them coming Kat!

And more:

This blog seems to be the appropriate place to post The State of Sandpo Address, April 11, 2011. Incredible breakthroughs are being made by sandpoets. The State of Sandpo Address chronicles accomplishments since the Sandpo Manifesto was issued. The State of Sandpo Address was originally titled The 16 Points of Sandpo. That document was retracted and has been subsequently revised:

Many thanks to Kat and DK for their contributions to Sandpo.

Hi Kat, the document has a clouded history and I wanted to bring it to closure. Yes, our faithful DK was involved with the first draft. Kat, for once I was very pleased with the scans of your work. It's beautiful and I want to thank you again. And we haven't gotten into your asemics yet....
