RECEIVED: Collage and Altered Text Mail-Art from Tina Festa (Matera, Italy)

Mail-art by IUOMA member Tina Festa (Matera, Italy)

February 9, 2011 - Tina Festa included me in her first mail-art series of the year. I am very pleased to receive this piece. She works in many different areas. In particular, she makes excellent collages often incorporating text, easily placing her work in the vispo category. She is also the first mail-art friend I have met who makes text weaves. The mail-art above, I believe, uses the altered book idea of crossing out words in existing texts to create new ones. I was first introduced to this idea by TIC TAC (Germany) when we altered pages from the 7th Chapter of Raymond Chandler's "The Big Sleep" to make a new story; it was a great experience and new work by TIC TAC will be posted here soon. Tina does a great deal of work in this area that is very visually appealing. Big news is included in her note:

Allright, Tina is expecting her first baby!!! She has a very cool dog who looks friendly. So things are falling into place. I wish her the best and am thinking of her. Tina mentions working with found poetry and collage. That is exciting to me because many artists who naturally gravitate toward the verbal-visual are often not fully aware of the possibilities available or that they are hardly alone in this pursuit. Of course vispo is incredibly vital in Italy, so I imagine Tina is part of that network - Bellini, etc., etc., etc. Probably her mail-art will be a bit disrupted in the months ahead with the baby, but I look forward to many more trades with my good friend Tina Festa. She has a new mail-art blog:

However my favorite is her flickr photostream. You can see many examples of her art (very well organized) and she is an amazing photographer:

Before you overthink a personal matter, ask for a hot snak. Someone named Mel, a big tree, or Doris gets her oaks. You can still yell "trust me" at the deaf piano. You will soon be a person if it means fireplace snakes. Lucky numbers: 13, 16, 35, 38, 42, 46

Tina, una piccola cosa da fare per un amico molto buona.Congratulazioni, sono molto felice per te.
(Let's see what Google translator aka Dada Poetry Maker does with that)
Hi Tina, I was thrilled to receive the mail-art and the exciting news from you. The poem is very beautiful. I saw it, I think, on your blog. Thank you for adding it here. Let's make sure to keep in touch. And what has become of Lu Lu Nerucci? I loved those endless pictures of shoes. I guess I had better mail her something.
Hi Laurence, how are you? Consider sending mail-art to Tina. Her new blog is excellent. Yes, Tina's poem is wonderful.

I am speechless! Thank you for the things you wrote!!!!

I am adding the english version for the "poem" I made using the chosen word. (please forgive me for the mistakes!)

"LA MUSICA DEL MIO CUORE"
Sono anni che attendo...
Di giorno vivo con l'euforia della mente,
ma di notte un pizzico di tenerezza mi invade.
Avrò la mia pace
quando i suoi occhi
incontreranno i miei,
di madre.

The first card made in 2011
(mail art  with collage made using paper dated back to 1890 - 1960 and 2010 and found poetry.

THE MUSIC OF MY HEART
I have been waiting for many years.
During day I live enjoying my euphoric state of mind
but during night
a bit of tenderness
takes me.
I will have my peace
when his eyes will meet mine,
the eyes of a mother.
