Phant-astic altered book cover by E - Ambassador of Utopia (Guivry, France)

Mail-art by IUOMA member E - Ambassador of Utopia (Guivry, France)

June 16, 2013 - The extraordinarily talented, prolific and unpredictable E - Ambassador of Utopia sent me this wonderful altered book cover.

While just being plain fun, E almost always has a strong concept behind his work. He creates an imaginary novel written by DVS - me! The Ambassador of Utopia chooses the "noir" genre, which matches his recent work and mail-art call that emphasizes red and black. (My own response to E's red and black obsession always leads me to see connections to Stendahl's The Red and the Black (a great French novel of the 19th century), but this is highly subjective.)

E often uses occult themes as well, so this allusion to the gothic strain in literature becomes "serie noir" in the larger context of the narrative he is creating, for he is clearly a visual poet as well as a visual artist.

E - Ambassador of Utopia is a mail-art persona, following what amounts to a great tradition in the Eternal Network. In addition to the art, he is creating a character with an accompanying mythology. This book cover is a wonderful addition, and I am honoured to be part of it.

E is marvellously prolific. In addition to all his other involvement in the network, he has become a much-welcome contributor to the MinXus-Lynxus blog. Instinctively and intellectually, E has responded to the post-neoist vibe in MinXus-Lynxus: "Movements" that do not exist and historic events that never occurred, among many other aspects. The idea of imaginary books is a natural part of the evolution. His extraordinary Book of MinXus is an enduring monument.

Ambassadeur, votre couverture de livre noir est une grande œuvre d'art. Je l'apprécie. Je vais vous envoyer quelque chose pour le rouge et le noir aussi. Comme toujours, merci
