Icelandic Message from Zipelit (New York City, USA ?)

Lipelit - 7.21.2016 - 1

Mail art by IUOMA member Zipelit (New York City, USA?)

July 21, 2016 - Zipelit is a somewhat mysterious character who is a member of IUOMA, but not much background material is available. I certainly admire this image I was sent. Zipelit also sends messages in what I understand to be Icelandic:

The calligraphy is fantastic! I am sure there are other mail artists out there who know Icelandic far, far better than I do. So, for now, I will leave the translation to someone else. I think this postcard originated in New York City, not Iceland. I could be mistaken about that too.

Zipelit is an intriguing character. I look forward to learning more and seeing more work. Many thanks!

Thanks MG. That's great commentary on this wonderful horse/unicorn image.

Actually, I had seen and "liked" a similar piece by Zipelit here on the IUOMA platform before this card arrived in  the mail.

I know nothing about Zipelit - but wow, I think s/he is a compelling artist. I have the same reaction you do. The Icelandic text makes it even more compelling.

Again, thanks for the insightful comment.

This is just so cool.  The artist makes it look easy, but then as you study it you see all this shading and complexity, the expert rendering of the hooves, flowing movement of the horse, ink emphasizing and strengthening lines.  I love the splash of red over the mane hinting at a unicorn horn (in my mind) that isn't actually there.  It's just so, so good!
