"Artefact": a special gift from Gabriel Xiloj of the Netherlands

This arrived three weeks ago and knocked my socks off: Gabriel sent me this because a couple of months ago I admired some photos he'd put up that played with the alphabet and signs and symbols. He has created his own symbols for the alphabet, and an imaginary story to go with the concept. The above is the front of this 7"x9" book; and the back plus his translation sheet follow: The book has 37 pages of writings using his symbols for the alphabet. He tells me that the stains and copy-machine marks and shadows add to the pages in ways that he likes, and they do fit with the story also. One statement he made in his notes to me especially summarizes well his purpose: "The whole booklet is geared to awaken cosmic awareness in the reader and handlers of this booklet." Several pages from the booklet have been scanned and will be posted in a comment, but first, after asking him for his permission, I'm including the notes he sent with this booklet because they explain what he has done far better than I ever could in paraphrase:

My time with this piece from Gabriel has been amazing. I am not finished translating from symbol to known alphabet, and that will take quite a while. But it's a special and beautiful piece, and is fabulous to hold in your hands. I pick it up often, something about it feels great, starting with clear tape over grocery bag paper. Following is a quote from another message from Gabriel, this one about the creative process in general, which I think is wonderful. Comments will show some pages. Thank you ever so much for this very special gift, Gabriel!

Quote:

"Isn't it great to be an artist, seeing life in your work and it telling you, that you can do more with it.

That is a big reason i love creating art so much, every piece or artefacts spurs me on to add something to it, stories, images and on and on.

When we give something life it seems to breathe in a way, wanting to do more in the world, me just filosophizing ofcourse, that is me."

Hi Nancy,

looking at the work this way it even gets an extra magickal dimension.

I think sometimes, copying and fotographing work adds more and more to a work of art.

The work looks now even better, i hope others will enjoy it as much as you do.

Love and light sent from the Netherlands,

Gabriel

First, the translation sheet right side up! Gabriel purposely has some pages in the booklet upside down, so apparently I went right ahead when scanning and did it to the translation sheet, which is actually loose from the booklet and could have been scanned right side up to begin with. Here it is, and then some pages as they appear in the booklet, no matter which way up:
