A Blog for Poetamailaratfluxus Bruno Cassaglia "NoThema"

Mail Art received 1st week January 2011.

Its always exciting to receive Bruno's Mail.  The envelope bears his recognizable one line caricature - is it the poet in flux? Have you ever drawn images with your non- dominant hand,  your eyes closed?  They will look like this - asemic drawings - is there such a thing I wonder?

I'm afraid this is a trifle bleached as I just CANT capture the pure lilac of Bruno's page filled with  intricate drawings and asemic writing.  As I understand it, this is a poem with no theme - I'll have to rely on Bruno for an answer to that :-) I could NOT get a translation out of google!  There may be no theme, but there is consistency of visual language in white on the right hand side juxtaposed with black asemic writing on the left.

Included in Bruno's envelopes were a variety of cut lilac pieces, various shapes and sizes.  Sort of lilac paper language.  I think the intention is for me to make my own fluxusvispopoem? If not, I did it anyway:-)

Thanks Bruno - always a pleasure to trade x

Mail art received 3 December 2010.

There have been various discussions on IUOMA about the differing types of work which manifest themselves from different regions. This is the first work I have had from Italy and to me it is noticeably different from all the other mail art I have received.

On Bruno's page his translation for this work was "illiterate by nature". The direct translation of "an-alfabeiti per natura" reads as an alphabet for nature or perhaps an alphabet (occurring) naturally. This example of asemic writing is beautiful. The colored areas and the linear fashion in which they are aligned resemble an organic language structure. Each color mark has some sort of cut/perforation incised into the surface. A further Unsignifing/Designifying of Signifiers.

When photographed differently to emphasize the organic, natural quality of the paper - a landscape embedded in the folds, the nature part of the work finds expression - valleys and peaks, light and shadow. Even the valleys and peaks have been carved. I find this to be a fascinating work.

Bruno I would appreciate your comments and and thoughts behind this work.

Bruno wrote to me and said the following:
Ciao Cheryl, il lavoro che hai ricevuto :" analfabeti per natura" è un lavoro dedicato alla natura , cioè a tutti gli animali , ma anche le piante che non sanno leggere il nostro alfabeto. un abbraccio . bruno
Hello Cheryl, the work we've received: "illiterate by nature" is a work dedicated to nature, that is all animals, but also plants that can not read our alphabet. a hug. bruno cassaglia
Thanks Bruno for responding - like Marie, I keep coming back to your work - thank you again.

Not quite, not quite, Cheryl. Too many things at the same time these days. I wish days were longer, and weekends too. Mostly weekends :-)

Sooooooo beautiful! It's like a parchment. I so want to go in that direction after seeing all the wonderful asemic writings that are circulating (and some of them I got, lucky me), but I'm not ready yet.
