A Blog for Lauriana Glenny (South Africa) : Project 26 C

Mail art received 25th January 2011

Ok, just because 1) - I may be the first to actually received something for this project :-) 2) - its fantastic and 3) the more glamorous Glimmer Twin did, I'm blogging Lauriana's Project 26 contribution and  No, its not going to become a habit :-(  as ALL the work has exceeded expectations.

Following the project brief, Lauriana,  as the director of a top secret mission has discovered an ancient clock (circa 808BC).

A clock which looks like an ordinary clock, but is not.

It is a clarity clock.

An machine that can be instrumental in slowing mankind down.

Her closing line - Time by itself does nothing but grow us old. What we do with time makes all the difference. FAB Lauriana :-)

MAN! I'm chuffed!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t know if it's Red or a great generosity of spirit that is drawing artists into its lure, but Lauriana Glenny  (Hillcrest,  South Africa) has given me – well – I’m overwhelmed -  a Red Book.
A Blood Red Book.

This is a fission frisson book. Red that drips and seeps and coagulates and layers and breathes and lives.

Lauriana is accessing the Passover Story.  The Blood on the Lintels and door frames.  The passage to forgiveness.   Life  in Blood. But this also feels like a private story.  A visual narration of  intimate acquaintance with Red in life and death.  Fragile. Dont Crush.

Blood, the transporting medium of the body - plasma, red blood cells - the mechanics of living that are useless without life's breath.

As a book artist I know how much work went into this.  I don’t know that I would have been brave enough to give it away.  Thank you  Lauriana. A BIG xmas present from a gifted, generous artist.

MAN! I'm getting fabulous mail art - I'm even getting FEATURED mail art - AND I can see why its featured...

Another GREAT piece from Lauriana. This is the second set of puzzle pieces Lauriana is sending out - she wrote on her blog about this : " My latest range of Mail Art also takes on a "puzzle" type format, but this time is linked together by a large script text that has been painterly applied to achieve a stencil-type effect. I have then echoed
this by further layering extra variations of script onto the individual
pieces, creating a mulit-layered "meaning upon meaning". I just love
the way this adds to the visual interest of the A5 pieces, and the
stitchwork and additional collage elements were simply the next logical
additions!"

One thing I can say is - very grateful I am that you logically posted me THIS piece - thank you!
What did the whole painted message say? Is that posted somewhere?

ANOTHER fantabulous from Lauriana.Glenny, Hillcrest South Africa.

One thing about Lauriana's work is the multitude of mediums she addresses in a single piece - sewing, collage, transfers, drawing, staples, text photocopies on paper, plastic, tags old film - you name it - its included in a really integrated and carefully composed manner. Making history - MAN GIRL! I'm doing my best! Thank you Lauriana - a real treat again!

Mail Art Received 19th October 2010
I received the my first mail art from Lauriana yesterday - fan-tas-tic! You guys are really in for a treat.

AND she sent me three mixed media works - altered pages, collage, what I think is bituseal or oil paint, acetate, text, stamps and staples.

Lauri had told me that one was for The World is a Town and 2 were for me - I think all three are going in the book.

Lauriana - THANKS my friend - I love my part of the puzzle - where can we see the full picture? Is that pic on your site all of them? How many were there?

Lauriana just wrote to me - she said she had sliced her finger open while cutting the transparencies for the book - there is REAL blood on this piece - o yes, this is conceptually authentic :-)
