DW: lol!
DVS: I should think it would be banned! It's been decades since I read it (went through a mega Stendahl indulgence), but as I recall it's anti-restoration/pro-empire (wasn't Julian a Napoleon worshiper? Or was that The Charterhouse of Parma?) Imho, a good pro-monarchist writer for the book club would be Balzac.
I'm not sure if I would be accepted DVS...? I romance royalist tendencies (aesthetically chiefly), as it were, but I'm exceedingly Pro-Enlightenment. (Ever Hail Voltaire & Diderot! Etc.!)
C'est moi Julien Sorel!
You let the cat out of the bag, Claire. Stendahl's Le Rouge et le Noir is indeed a central MinXus text, although it technically is banned, coming as it did well after the Enlightenment. Dw is working on a new version replacing Julian Sorel with himself.
I have no doubt that on some level KC channelled this information for her own wonderful version here of The Red and the Black (given Catholicism is so central in said book).
You should join the MinXus Book Club.
Could always be titled "Stendahl" %_^ (he wrote a great novel called The Red and the Black)...
Love the red & black.
Wow, Gorgeous Karen!
