His personal theory of art involves chance operations, the use of sheep skiver to wrap found objects, intermedia, design principles from the Bauhaus and DeStihl, figurative and non-objective abstraction and numerous materials. Boyd continues to cast bronze. Boyd initiated the sculpture department at Kenyon College, as well as "Pam Am Clipper," a public relations magazine for 10,000 employees at Cape Canaveral in 1970. He has written several articles on art and two photo/history books about the area, "Mount Vernon" and "Knox County Bridges." Boyd is married to Karen, MVNU social work chair, and has four children and eight grandchildren. His teaching spans 50 years in education. Some of his former students have gone on to achieve national prominence.

Boyd has been an adjunct professor of art at MVNU since 1994. Prior to that, he established the sculpture program at Kenyon College from 1966-72. In 1973, he was named to Who's Who in American Art. He became a member of Fluxus, the first worldwide art movement, in 1973.

Don Boyd has maintained a private studio since 1987 and is currently the director of Fluxus West. His work incorporates found objects, often wood and metal.
