Attic Zine update--my copy swam out of the mail stream yesterday and landed in my mailbox. 3.5 months of travelling! Pix soon.
Hi Terry, my hope is that my copy of Attic Zine is just sitting in the postal system--probably at a major distro center--and it will eventually get to me.
There is one assembling zine in the USA--Stamp Zine, run by Picasso and Darlene Gaglione. I can post instructions if you don't know of that one.
Many years ago I organized an assembling magazine that ran for 2 issues. This was specific to the experimental music scene in Washington, DC, and the concert series I ran at the time. Most of the contributions were delivered by hand.
I have thought of starting an assembling zine, but this isn't a great time for me financially or in terms of time commitment. For instance, it's crucial to get international participants, but this increases the financial obligation. And I have always had several projects going at once, so I've learned to be careful when adding another. I want to be sure I can do right by the project and the participants.
It's good to know someone else is thinking of starting an assembling zine. Maybe we can actualize this in the (near) future!
Jeff Bagato, I've been reading your conversations below. Maybe we could start an assembling zine in the U.S. I participate in Attic Zine but have never started one of these zines myself. How about you? Have you ever created one? Maybe we could brainstorm on something? I'm so sorry you haven't received your Attic Zine that was mailed in November. I've never seen such crazy delivery (or non-delivery!!) of the mail as it has been this past year! Hopefully it will eventually arrive. Something I mailed from Florida took 110 days to arrive on the East Coast!! I can't remember the state but it wasn't all that far from Florida!
yeah, the mail has been messed up. it's hard to know when things will arrive. the latest issue i sent out seems to be taking its time. or it has arrived and i've not heard that it has. i know of one person who received theirs so far. anyway, i'll be very happy if you send work for the rubber postcard.
Thanks William, those are the ones I know of (excepting the one in Greece). I sent work to Wipe and Kart, but they haven't arrived in a month (missed the latest issues). And I haven't received Attic zine which was mailed in November. I sent work to Circulaire, so maybe the mail will get through. I have been sending and receiving to/from BrainCell. I have to make some cards to send to yours!
i'm not aware of any other assembling zines in the usa. these are the only active ones i'm aware of:
Circulaire 132 - Canada
WIPE - Australia
KART - Australia
Attic - UK
Art In A Box - Greece
The Rubber Postcard - Taiwan**
Braincell- Japan*
*maybe not technically an assembling zine since you're not getting back the original work sent in.
**this is the one i run.
Is there a list of currently active assembling zines? I'm particularly looking for ones in the USA. I've been contributing to Stamp Zine. Are there any others here?
please do terry!
William M - I just read your post below about The Rubber Postcard. I'm going to send you something one of these days. Looks fun! Thank you.
I hope so too, Mel Anie. I want to do this! :-)
