Incoming: Greg Diaz, Cut and Tear, Braincell and Mindaugas

Some fun work from Greg.

Some cool monster cuttings from Kate.

Braincell 1165. Always such a joy to find one of these in my mailbox.

So great to have work from Mindaugas again. Been a long time in which there was no mail service from Taiwan to Lithuania. I especially like this postcard with what I believe to be a 10 Litu banknote. The banknote features Steponas Darius and Stasy Girinas who died in a plane crash attempting to fly nonstop from NYC to the Ukraine. Apparently they also flew the first airmail shipment from the U.S. to Europe. I knew none of this until Mindaugas sent this piece and suggested I google them.

An inspiring story. I have seen sales amongst collectors of the mail that was carried. So at least some of it survived. Not sure if original receivers were reached but it definately landed in some albums. Though many fake stamped pieces exist.

i thought so too kate. good question katerina. maybe the mail survived the crash and was delivered? depending on what happened at the crash. have you ever been to that park? i asked a few of my chicago friends and they hadn't nor had they heard this story.

Aha,I know of these pilots who crashed and died in Germany in 1933:

"A monument to Darius and Girėnas is located in the northeast corner of Marquette Park in Chicago"

but what ever happened to all that mail they were carrying????
