Incoming: jean Jackson, Niniji Chen, Jean-Phillipe Gilliot

Some really wonderful work from Jean. Love her stamp collection. I'm not sure if the interplanetary stamps are artistamps or some sort of cinderellas? is there a difference between the two - i'm not sure.

Niniji sends October. Always fun to have mail from a fellow mail artist in Taiwan.

A couple pages from a zine Jean-Phillipe sent documenting work he's received. I really like this idea.

"Cinderellas", "album weeds", "Poster Stamps", and now "Artistamps", are all non-postal, non-revenue stamps.  Advertising or "charity" stamps were predominantly the source of Cinderellas. Expositions were common starting in the late Industrial age and are the source of some of the most beautiful "poster stamps" extant.  As mail correspondence was the bulk of trade early on, advertising stamps (also examples of "Poster Stamps") added a colorful and eye-catching way to lure buyers. Early in the 20th Century, there were several clubs and societies devoted to collecting "Poster Stamps".

Anniversaries of the founding of a Country or City, annual days/weeks of note for trades or charities. Just citing all the types and categories would be an extensive list.

Somewhat blurring the lines were the charity stamps issued to raise money for injured/disabled war veterans from the American Civil War (1861-1865).  The purchaser of these stamps was actually making a donation when he/she purchased denominated stamps available at a "Sanitary Fair".

This is a very short description of some of these types, but I will illustrate the topic with a few scans of the hundreds of thousands of these that have been issued over the past almost 150 years.

Katerina, it's what they are known among stamp collectors. like the easter seals would be considered cinderellas i believe.

Nice artistamps for Interplanetary Space!

maybe the French call them "faux stamps" :-)

"cinderellas", I never heard, is it a term amongst collectors?

The Interplanetary Space stamps were issued around 1970 and are "Cinderellas" in the field of philately, but we also call them Artistamps around these parts.  I got a pane of these from Littleton Stamp Company when I was first forming a stamp collection.
