Dear Mim, you are one of the Group's most loyal supporters and contributors and are definitely NOT amongst the non-active members.

I really appreciate your efforts -- keep going! Bestest, Val

Thanks Raphael. I am curious how come you still have postcards going back 45 years? Val

THERE'S NOT MUCH HAPPENING IN THIS STREET OR ON THIS POSTCARD, OF;;;

Bastion St, Mdina ("the Silent City", Malta

"Silent", because it used to be the capital of Malta, but when the capital was moved to Valetta*, Mdina became a 'virtual ghost town'

(* Valetta is not named after your correspondent Val)

In the communist era, there were also postcards dedicated for children
in Poland.

What I was trying to draw on the other side

was probably the beginning
of the mail art.

But these two copies were never sent by post

because I was trying to address them to myself.

Postcards form 1977 year.

I wonder if you walked through Louis' Salles 1 to 14 before you arrived at this one?

It was the sixth and the first newly built church in the working-class district of Krakow - Nowa Huta. It was established on the initiative of Fr. Józef Gorzelany in the years 1967–1977 according to the design of the architect mgr. Eng. Wojciech Pietrzyk. The roof of the building resembles the church not only to the ark, but also to the Ronchamp chapel, designed by Le Corbusier.  The history of the church's foundation is related to the defense of the cross by the inhabitants of Nowa Huta in 1960, in the place where the church was originally to be erected. The communist authorities allowed the construction of the temple, but in a different place. On May 18, 1969, the Archbishop of Krakow, Card. Karol Wojtyła, laid the cornerstone from the Basilica of St. Peter at the Vatican and blessed by Pope Paul VI. (information by Wikipedia).

But it is surprising to me that, in opposition to the communist authorities and the socialist realism that they promoted in public architecture, the Polish Catholic Church focused on architectural solutions related to atheistic modernism. The language of modernist architecture has become a weapon of the Catholic Church in the fight against the communist power in Poland. Strange???

Postcard send to me about 1985 year.
