MIM's POSTCARDS CONTINUED

1. Lake Scene

It says on the back "Lake Scenes -- 10 Subects". I don't know which lake it is -- any ideas? (I hope the other 9 Lake Scenes are equally Boring.)

2. "Jumping Cholla (Cho' Ya') Opuntia Bigelovia

A still-life. Or still death. "Most dangerous of the desert cactus because of its loosely connected joints that drop to the flesh or clothing at the slightest disturbance. The barbed, needlelike spines bore deep and removal from flesh is very painful, yet this is the most beautiful large cactus on the desert because of its shining silvery spines that look like little icicles in the sunlight. Flower April and May."

As we are now in June, you'd be safer with Jumping Jack Flash. Cho Ya!

1. Hotel Row, Miami Beach, Florida

"Looking nothward along Miami Beach's Collins Avenue, the Nation's greatest concentration of luxury hotel accomodate the hundreds of thousands of visitors that enjoy the sun and excitement of this resort capital.

"SEE THE NATION IN A CHEVROLET."

The 'hundreds of thousands of visitors' seem to be avoiding the beach when they are seeking their excitement -- there's no-one there.

Does one (ot more) of these hotels belong to Donald?

2. Cabell Library, circa 1975,  VA

"The James Branch Cabell Library was one of the 1st new buildings constructed by YOU, following its creation in 1968 from the foundations of the Medical College of Virginia and Richmond Professional Institute.Cabell Library opened as a 2-story building in 1970. This image shows the architectural imprint that stood until 2016, when the new expanded Cabell Library opened."

1. Pet Shop Boys: "Being Boring"

Some people quote the Bible. Others quote Shakespeare. Yet others (including your truly) quote song titles or song lyrics -- usually from a  different era. Jimmy has bought to my notice a song by the Pet Shop Boys called "Being Boring" that he says "..is being sung in his head all the time".*

2. Top of Mt. Washington, NH

3. Typical Village Bure, Fiji

THREE MORE FROM JIMMY CONNORS

1. Munchen-- Schleissheim -- Lustheim

Featuring the world famous Gasthof-Pension Zum Kurfurst, which is 4 km from the Olympic Stadium, the same distance from the autobahn (highway/motorway/autoroute, etc) exit, and so on and so forth

2. Bad Pyrmont

'Bad' is 'Bath', and Bad Pyrmont is a German spa resort that became famous in the 17th and 18th centuries. This Boring Postcard shows the Kurpark (I don't think the rather feeble fountain in the front is one of the famous Bads).

3. Valls d'Andorra

The Maison des Vallées in Andorra. There are lots of valleys in Andorra. And duty-free shops. And tourists. But not much else that I can remember from my couple of visits there many years ago.

(I should make it clear that the maison in this Boring Postcard is NOT the maison of t[his] Val -- his [mine] is much, much grander than this.)

1. Taitt's house, Fort William Historical Park, Thunder Bay, Ontario

I'm sure y'all know that 'James Taitt served the North West Company as clerk and superindent of buildings at Fort William from 1906 to 1823'

2. The Comecon building (1969), Moscow

I'm sure y'all know that the architects for this buidling were Mikjail Posokhin, Ashot Mndoyants and Vladair Svirsky.

(This is really instructive, n'est-ce pas?)

3. Pommboula

What is 'Pommboula'? I thjoughyt you'd never ask, well...Now y'all will know that it's a Catering cum Event-Catering cum Homecooking company, run by Michael Modig.

4. Hotel-Restauant zur Hohlen GasseNo cutlery, no food, no diners, BUT a crossbow on the wall.

This Boring postcard -- Jimmy's favourite -- has 'Uwe and Knut' written on the back of it. I hope they got soething to eat there, and didn't get shot

5. Grus aus Oberhof

"Greetings" from the winter sports center and health resort in Germany

6. Gruss von den Talsperren des Harzes

A 'Talsperren' is a damn. there seem to be a lot of them in des Harzes; they send y'all their greetings.

Who writes, "I thought this was a boring postcard, both front and back'

Stanley Field Hall, Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago

"The great central hall of th Field Museum of Natural History is 299 ft long, 68 feet wide, and 75 feet high. It was named after the Board of Trustees of teh Museum in honor of Stanley Field, its  President since 1909. The hall contains outstanding exhibits selected from the Departments of Anthropology, Botany, Geology, Zoology, and the N.W. Harris Extension'

That's the official description.

Also, on the back of the postcard, someone has typed, 'This is the first floor entrance corridor of the Museum -- in the center of the two huge elephants mounted look just as natural as life. the little show cases dotted around contain birds, or rock, or other specimens. At the door of the far end of corridor one looks out at the stadium called "Soldier's Field".

I like the '....look just as natural as life' comment. I've heard of African elephants and Indian elephant , but not elephants from Chicago, Illinois or the USA.... unless they are Republicans therein

3. Winter Mountain, Ngauruhoe, New Zealand

Mt Ngauruhoe, 2200 m (7515 ft) is an active volcano and a feature of the Tongariro National Park. This [boring] view shows the volcano in repose under a mantle of snow.'

Surely the two trees deserve a mention to by the Poet of Ngauruhoe?

Front and back of a Postcard sent from Bordeaux to Tarn (both in France) by a Prisoner of War in November, 1940

The card could only be sent to a family member. the amount of news that could be sent was controlled -- you could be dead, dying, tired, in need of money, in good health (as the sender was), etc.

The writer sent 'affectionate thoughts and kisses to all'.

As I do to you ...well the thoughts anyway, 'cos social distancing rules out the kisses these days.
