Yes, Zen to:  Val Herman, , Alan Brignall, ,John Cage, et al,...these "boring postcards" don't look all the same but yes, they are equally  boring & much the same ,over & over again--- sorta  like the last time & the time before that ...just like Mister Herman pledged that they were gonna be---just like he said. It's all kinda "boring" & I can't wait to see the next one.

"Some of these cards are so boring they're interesting…"

Quote from Jogn Cage:

"In Zen they say: If it is boring after two minutes listen to it for four. If still boring, listen for eight or sixteen or thirty-two and so on. Soon we dIScover that it is not boring at all but actually very interesting."

Thanks Val. Those Fabiolas are wonderful. And mysterious too. So much the same and so different at the same time.

AT THE SUGGESTION OF NO IDEA, HERE ARE SOME BORING RESTAURANT POSTCARDS......AAND A QUESTION......

Why are these restaurants usually empty?

1.Ristorante AGIP di Roncobilaccio ,Caselle, Bologna, Italy

This seems to be as much about the Parking Lot as the Restaurant. The people who arrived in the red station wagon may be eating the speciality of the Ristorante, 'Tosco-Emiliane'

2. Bistrot des Copains ('Friends' Bistrot'), Port-Leucate, France

Nice chairs. Speciality sea-food. Open all the year...but closed right now because of the French lockdown.

3. Café-Restaurant Hintereck, Oversalzeberg, Bavaria, Germany

Is this the lounge or the retaurant? If the latter, where are the plates, glasses, etc?

4. Hotel-Café-Restaurant-Tabac from Trehou, Normandy, France

Complete with cut-out figure of lady in regional costume, and 3 petrol pumps. (Plus lady in pink coat and a Solex)

5. Valencia Restaurant, Fulham, London

This is one of my favourites (with a 'u'). There are people in the restaurant, but no-one has anything to eat or drink.

(It does, however, serve 'Real Spanish Food' -- as opposed to 'False Spanish Food'? -- has a 'Cocktail Bar and Entertainment'. Perhaps the Entertainment is the serving of some 'Real Spanish Food'?!

6. Restaurant 'Los Jameos del Agua', La isla los volcanes, Lanzarote, Spain (sort of)

If you look at this through a high power magnifying glass (like I did), you'll see that no-one in this restaurant has anything to eat or drink. Eleven occupied tables and 19 people, all waiting....for a waiter or Godot.

Bonjour No Idea,

Alas, I can't enlarge the art photos in Ethel's Restaurant to see what they are.  The decor is terrible.

I have a few Boring Restaurant Postcards, and will show them here soon.

While almost all Fabiola's have the red head-scarf and Fabiola looking to the right, in his 'Fabiola' book, Alys also show some where she has has white, black and green head-scarves, and some where she is looking to the left. (Inspired by Alys, I started buying Fabiolas at local flea markets a couple of years ago, and have a dozen or so, but they are hard to find. And there are no more flea markets being organised in France these days.)

The colour in the Ethel's Hideaway postcard must have shifted over time. Can't believe anyone would want to dine in such a gruesome atmosphere. Like to see more of the art on the walls. A collection of restaurant post cards might offer its own particularly unique set of visual rewards. The red in this postcard also reminded me of Francis Alÿs' collection of Fabiola images. It numbers in the hundreds.

Thanks for this on-line exhibit. It's cheering me up to see such boring postcards. I sent an envelope with a few more which you might receive soon.  Our state Governor has now declared Lockdown for Virginia. So it goes. Be safe. "We're all in this

together" has never held such truth before. Okay, maybe except for the two WWs.

REAL MEN.......

1. Don't Send Postcards

But we Real Mail Artists do.

2. Real Men Don't Eat Quiche

A classic book published in 1982 that captures much of what was happening during the Reagan/Thatcher years.

Ronald famously called Margaret, '..the best man in England'.

Was she a 'Real Man'? Was Ronald?

Read Feirstein to find out...

But before you do,

3. Have you got an answer to this?

A Dutch Postcard from Vodafone (from 2002), who state that 'Because with Vodafone Call Home you can call 51 countries at the attrcative local Dutch rate'.

No thanks Vodafone. No thanks ET. (Or BT for that matter)

I'd rather have a Postcard.
