I've always enjoyed finding badges to pin to my lapel. As far back as the 60's in art school I can remember aking my own - usually from card with a simple safety pin sellotaped to the back. I think the first was an ironic Bert Weedon Fan Club badge ( Bert was a popular guitarist famous for his pamphlet "Play In A Day" ) . Began finding other badges and brooches in junk shops and flea markets. Hazel and Archie collect them too so between us have quite a varied selection from advertising, pop…

Besides collecting mail art and rubber stamps etc. we collect all manner of other things. The truth is we find it hard to throw anything away so eventually these piles of detritus become little collections of things. They say if you have just two things then it's become "a collection" . Focusing on just one of our interests - matchbox labels or to give it its proper name "phillumenism". Every years they have a wonderful Phillumenists Meet Up" (not sure if thats the right name they give…

November is here and the leaves pile up on the back garden path. Soon the green bin will be full. We are enjoying the colours of Autumn every day on our walks . Amazing yellows, browns and reds. We are lucky to have the countryside so close here in Rudheath. It's but a short walk to the Trent & Mersey canal in one direction and down the lane the other way are fishing ponds and the River Dane. Lots of farm land full of corn stubble and some for sheep and cows. Sadly some has been…
Continue07.01.21 Dare Mister Michael Leigh, ..."How do you highlight someone's name in red with a link?"----You must be one of those from the olden times--- the snail mail people---whatta you call em ---"Mail Artists" from the twentieth century. Hang in there & Good Luck, SinCelery, Richard Canard
Hi Michael, I contacted the Special Collections department about it recently - but they are not open so I haven't 'seen' any of it yet. Another online avenue of exploration for me to follow up at the moment - I am stumbling along. I am very intrigued by the history and development of mail art. I didn't really know anything about it until I stumbled into it as a result of these lockdowns. It's one of those, 'curious things'.
I love that orange dog!
I am also enjoying self isolation, we are taking it very seriously and started a week before the official date.
But I still have that I-cannot-cope-feeling. To think that some of my non-mail artists friends are bored. What is that? Do you know?
This is for you, from Retailia with love.
Please send me your postal address.
19.12.19 Dare Mister Michael Leigh, ...Oh, to be in Manchester (at least for a couple of days) Congratulations! "Curious Things" looks indeed most curious. Is that a Claes Olden burg Rubber Stamp I see sitting on the topshelf of the vitrine??? Best Wishes (& deserving so )for your exhibition.SinCelery, Richard Canard
