Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
I love the idea of personalising something to send to a friend. Years ago I would draw silly faces in the place where the stamp should go and found that my letters did arrive. I had bets with friends who not believe that the little token on the packet of biscuits would serve perfectly as a stamp for their personalised card or letter. Over the years things have developed. I have just created a series of small parcels for my daughther who was stressed about doing her English finals in Oxford. We both got great please of sending and receiving little gems.....long may it last.....

Mourjin, this is the last but certainly not the least welcome message to IUOMA you receive. I’m a celestial mail artist living in a heavenly corner of the faraway universe called Republik van Patland. When you joined IUOMA on June 12 I was unable to welcome you on board.  At the time I was in a celestial journey far beyond the Milky Way. Now, back to planet Earth, I´d love to be the other end when you decide it’s the right time to start trading snail mail art. If this is the case at the time your envelope should read as follows:

The Celestial Scribe

Terrene Embassy

The Celestial Republik van Patland

Caixa Postal 24827

Curitiba-PR

80510-970

Brazil

II look forward to see a piece of yours in my terrene mailbox. I will do my homework after receiving yours. This is a celestial promise. I’m Patricio, Celestial Scribe & Republik van Patland official envelope provider.

Dear ,

Welcome to IUOMA!

It's a great bunch of folks and I hope that you enjoy exchanging Mail Art with us. I'm your Mentor, and if I can help to ease you into IUOMA in any way, then please don't hesitate to ask and I'll try to explain what's going on and how IUOMA works.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest you take a look at the 'New to IOUMA' page (4th from the left at the top of the IUOMA home page) where you'll find a 10-point Introductory Guide that should give you an insight as to what is going on.

Would you like to exchange some Mail Art with me? If so, send me something to 1 Rue de la Vieille Fontaine, F-11130 Sigean, France, and I PROMISE to send you something back.

There is a great book by John Tingey called 'The Englishman who Posted Himself'; It's about a guy called W Reginald Bray (perhaps the first ever Mail artist), and what he posted to himself at the turn of the 2Oth century: it's quite amazing. Long may this sort of eccentricty last

Hoping you enjoy your IUOMA days.

Regards, Val Herman
