mailart by candlelight tomorrow, Saturday March 23rd, anyone?

WWF’s Earth Hour is a unique annual phenomenon that focuses the world’s attention on our amazing planet, and how we need to protect it. At 8.30pm on 23 March hundreds of millions of people will turn off their lights for one hour, on the same night, all across the world in a huge, symbolic show of support.

Well, dear friends... I think Vizma will be ok as surely she has birthday candles to light her way to the champagne (I'm with you Angie, just sing loudly if Val's postings start to give us just a bit toooo much information!

Every Australian has a bar fridge!! It's the spare fridge in the shed that gets switched on in the summer months, or about half the year.

Ok ok, mine's on all year round! Don't judge me!!! I live in the dryest state on the dryest continent!! Water is scarce!

We live and learn.

Most people have fridges.

Vizma has a BAR fridge!

I hope that it is full of champagne for her birthday*.

I don't think that she should worry too much about the light in it, as she can probably navigate her way to and around and in it in the dark.

* It's not that i forget her birthday, just that the present I had planned for her was going to be paid for by money in my Cypriot bank account which is, er, blocked.

Hmm, he's trying to make up for the fact that he forgot to send me anything by ahem, complimenting me, or something.

So Stripygoose, does that mean tonight before 8:30 I have to get all of the Champagne out of the fridge that I want to drink for the next hour? Because the bar fridge light is pretty bright and I wouldn't want anyone to think I was cheating.

My sister lives near Sydney, in New South Wales, Oz.

When we talk on the phone, we spend half of the time working out what hour and day it is where we are.

As to 20.30 GMT (is that right??) on the 23rd today (well, today here in France) and it's temporal correspondance with South Australia, all I can offer is the old saying, "Today is the Tomorrow you were wondering about Yesterday".

(If you look at Diane Keye's Bad Mail Art Group, you will see that some of the Bad Mail Art featured there was made under candlelight, and a great deal of it made in the dark.)

What a vivid imagination and lively mind you have Val, or something like that... anyway, isn't the earth hour 8.30pm local time on the 23rd, so not actually synchronised all over the planet - we'll sort of be in darknes in sequence...

Can we link this with the Global Celebration of Vizma's Birthday (what? yoiu haven't sent her a card or cheque?).

It takes place on the 24th March, South Australian time.

As I have no idea what this is in Central European (or any other) time it seems very possible to link up the two events. especially for those of us who think of Vizma for an hour a day, every day, with the lights off, and STOP RIGHT THERE, VAL! THIS IS A FAMILY-FRIENDLY SITE!

Yes why not - I guess candlelight is OK?

As far as I can see everyone just does it local time otherwise I guess it would be middle of night for some. If you can find different on the website let me know please! : > )
