I'm not sure anyone has addressed this yet but it has occurred to me that we may all be wondering what the protocols should be.

Here's an informative article that addresses the issue.

I am sorry to read that your stuck at your mothers place at the moment, Patricia. I would go nuts having to stay at my parents place for more than some days. Hope it's comfortable there, as good as possible in this situation.

A virus can't spread without a cell of a living beeing (not like bacteria) so don't worry about your mail in the German post box. If there are is any virus on it they will slowly die on the surface of it (mainly dry out).

But this whole situation is of course very unpleasant. My thoughts are especially with the Italians that have the worst situation at the moment.

Keep safe and healthy, people! All the best to you!

so nice for you to post it! I read it too in an Italian newspaper..scary. and I do too 'quarantine' the little post I receive outside the garage, in a plastic bag...we can only do our best. as information changes all the time, due to the little knowledge there still is on this virus and its mutations. I am not home currently stuck in Italy at my mother's. all my post is being stored by the German post until I go back, so I wonder what goes on in those post offices, not only regarding who works there but also packages and envelopes infecting each other....what a nightmare!!

Ten days ago I questioned this mail art from Ruggero Maggi...from MILAN, ITALY:

in the blog:

From Italy Ruggero Maggi sends from Milano!

Better to be safe than sorry...not at all paranoid.

Thanks for this , David, as even the experts keep saying "they don't know".

Yes viruses stay on surfaces for days, and they are not sure about paper, packages, etc.

Most of the mail art in the last batch that was delivered to me on Wednesday

were postmarked 10 to 12 days earlier, so no virus from any mail artists :-)

BUT what about the postal handlers? the sorters? the postman?

What have they touched, been exposed to?

So, on Wednesday I collected the mail with gloves, ran a "wipie" over each piece,

and then opened them. But I think Ilya has a good idea for "quarantine" in a bag outside?

Actually, with the cancelling of so many flights,

there may not be air mail and mail art delivery for some time.

Looks like we might be heading for a "mail-art-lock-down"?

I was also thinking about that topic. Good to know!

You're welcome. I not entirely certain if it's reassuring or not. But better to be informed than not.
