Subsequent to the mail art presentation in April, I will be co-teaching  a workshop on "How to teach Mail Art" to high school art teachers in mid-June. (How about that?!)

If you are willing, it would be GREAT to have mail art packets to give these teachers to really give them an idea of how fun mail art is.

Please send Mail Art Workshop items to

MAIL ART WORKSHOP

c/o Coco Muchmore

PO Box 373

Perry, KS 66073

Also, what are your thoughts about teaching MAIL ART? Beyond Dada and FLUXUS history (and how to address an envelope), what activities or information are important to include?

We're only able to do offer this workshop because the earlier class was such a success. And it is was a great success BECAUSE I was able to share unopened MAIL ART with the students!

As before, I will send return mail and a full report of the experience to each mail artist who submits assistance.

Thanks ever so much (in advance)!

Hi Coco,

Do you want an envelope filled with mail art? Is that the request? Just wondering. Or do you need every piece addressed separately (as a post card or in an envelope). What is your preference please. Thanks…..

i'm not sure if it will arrive in time but i'll try to send something our way on monday. if you haven't already you might want to listen to jennie hinchcliff's mail art podcast sender's receive. specifically the two part episode where she talks to chuck welch. he talks about (among many things) teaching mail art in high school in the 80s or late 70s i believe. if i remember correctly his art class exchanged mail art with other high school art classes in the district.

as for things to cover. i'd recommend talking about various assembling zines. Circulaire 132, KART, WIPE, Stampzine, @RtH*Le, The Rubber Postcard, Braincell(well, technically probably not an assembling zine), etc. I think these are an easy way to enter into mail art - and a plus is that you are guaranteed to get something back.

Hey Coco, so wonderful that you will do this workshop!

I'll send you a piece of mailart and some collage material for it. I'm also excited to know how it went. I think the most they would learn by doing mailart. And perhaps browsing a bit around in mailart communities to see what people are doing or reading mailart news :)  (they could do this before or after the workshop).

Hi Coco-- by "mail art packet" do you mean mail art that a student (or teacher) would open, like for the class you taught to students?  I loved your report on how the class went.  I may have an old textbook laying around with instructions on how to address an envelope...

'Will try to send soon, best of success with this very important workshop!

some of the high school teachers may have to learn how to address an envelope:

pen, paper, envelope, postage stamp...what are those things? :-)
