Cards from Brittany Ellis, Susanna Lakner, and Mystery Mail-Artist

Brittany is sending me this little gem, I loooove the photo and the way she framed it and made a card out of it. Superb.…

Run before it evaporates and we are left with nothing at all - from David Stafford

Another David Stafford, yeey! When I got the card I thought it was about David running to the post office with a letter, or running home from the post office (with a letter as well, obviously). Well it's not exactly like that. The card is part of a sketch he made for Helder Coehlo Dias' poster. After this it is a bit hard to follow the…

I think, it is rather late [experimenting with gold] - from Svenja Wahl

Svenja is experimenting with gold and red and book covers and poems. How my photo of it can be so poor, I don't know. The red paint is wonderfully blended with gold, and the book cover as well (and not brown as it seems to be on the photo).  I really like her choice of picture and the composition, especially the two beautiful faces.

As a poem she…

Cellule de Cerveau # 822

Got a new Brain Cell From Ryosuke Cohen, yey! I think he did a GREAT job, I'm absolutely chuffed. The Minxus stamps look dashing, right in the middle of the sheet (and just on top of Cheryl's hat). And icing on the cake, the address list goes: cp-sa, mw-jp, rc-jp. Great!

And I really want to quote MINesota flUXus (NOT the real Minxus) friend…

Le Rustique cherche Petit Munster (a matter of [cheesy] affinity) - from Dean Marks

Dean loves to play with words, and taking the twisted roads of language back and forth between French and English is even more fun. He knows how to build a story around the most (apparently) insignificant comment that comes up on a blog. So he knows that crêpes suzette only make me moderately homesick and that it is cheese (and alsacian Munster cheese in…

Fire Monkey Body Surfing the Great Wave - from RCBz

I sometimes wish RCBz would be around to tell us more about his pieces. I know I really like this card, but I can't explain exactly why. Esthetically, Hokusai's wave is always a winner. The card is built very simply around it. No frills whatsoever, and the back of the card is equally sober, stripped-down to the address. Is is a reference to the tsunami? Why the…

Saddle Shoe - from Alicia Starr

When I picked up this package at the post office I first thought someone had sent me a slice of chocolate cake. I was almost disappointed that it wasn't the case, until I saw that it was Alicia's last. She painted a great saddle shoe on one of her... I really don't know the name of it, what is it called? I think she is making pairs, I wonder if there is another…

Fantastic Minxus-Lynxus USA dispatch - from De Villo Sloan

Well, the envelope says De Villo but I know that the one who did ALL this work is Dark wall. Dw has been a fervent and very prolific producer of Minxus art over the past months. Until now I had only seen his collection through the pictures uploaded in his gallery, but with this package I am now the very happy owner of several major, authentic and original…

New piece from Bruno Neiva and Vive les pill from Jen Staggs

I am very happy to hear from Bruno again. This new piece he sent me is very much in the line of his work, exploring textures, shapes, layers, soft tones. He is another aficionado and very successful user of the Re- concept. I hope this is a sign that he is returning to mail art? Bruno, thank you very much, you will soon get something from…

Root mail - from Vizma Bruns

Vizma has such an impressive collection of stamps, they make for great envelopes. I could immediately tell this one was from her. The red bag? The ROOT stamp? Maybe... Inside, I could have a closer look at the famous octopus (NOT a…

The Music Boekie - by Cheryl Penn [spoiler alert: contains Elvis made entirely of guitars]

Music was the first theme for the official kick off of Cheryl's New Alexandrian Library. She is sending one of her books back for every work she is getting, and as usual I'm on the winning side. Her book is an ode to music, to the poetry in all music, to its many facets.…

Bar codes are going MAD - from Dean Marks

Dean went MAD, and so went the bar codes. Lucky them. He says he made this card during a flight. I'm wondering, what does he bring on board? Does he collect all the bar codes beforehand and then assembles them in flight? Or does he carry piles of... what exactly, I can't even figure out where they come from and he won't tell. They look so nicely similar and…

The woman at the top of the world - from David Stafford

Just when my mailbox was on the verge of despair about not seeing a David Stafford for too long, I get this wonderful card. A very dreamy, soft and hazy picture, a beautiful woman and the entrance of a mysterious tunnel. It's a dream, for sure. And such a well written dream as well. Please take a moment to read it, you will see what I mean. David says the story…

Rainbow clouds, Spring Hillside, and a Multitude of Suns - from Theo Nelson

My Theo Nelson collection is growing, and I couldn't be happier. His seasonal postcards with poem are always a delight. In addition he is also a very talented ATC-ist (sorry for using such an ugly word to describe such great art), and is…

Explore her Feelings and Ideas - from Nancy Bell Scott

This piece by Nancy blew my mind into a different hairdo. I could tell from the envelope...

"Explore her feelings and ideas" is written somewhere in that piece on transparent paper, almost completely merged and blended with the background, just visible enough for me to find it. And I found it. So I thought it would make a perfect title for any of Nancy's…

Trying to catch up again, I have so much great mail I would like to show you. If only days had a few more hours it would be so much easier :-)

Theresa is telling me about a great dream she had, and I was featuring! I love her fish stamp, her calligraphy, the whole package...…

Leo's shirt / Stars in her eyes - from Cheryl Penn

Cheryl has once again investigated. She always brings back tiny bits of forgotten history from her trips for us to enjoy. This one had me laughing for a long time. And where does she get all that stuff from? Leonardo and his bi-pede T-shirt that he never took off :-))) a piece of genius writing. The front of the card is a picture of the T-shirt, and the back is an…

Card and slides from Karen Champlin

I am always looking forward to Karen's envelopes. It's a gift every time. I got two of them last week, with card and arty slides, and very sweet messages. The card is a photo of relatives, as she explains on the back of it. Tightly surrounded by a protective white line, and looked after by an angel. The slides are great too, I particularly like the black and…

Folding or unfolding - from Lesley Magwood Fraser

Lesley has to deal with so many things in her life right now, I can't believe how good her art is even in those busy-difficult days, and I can't believe I got TWO great envelopes from her. A chopped up painting, a drawing, very delicate paper, and a small envelope that does or does not contain the answer. Is my life folding or unfolding. Very interesting…
