Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
...
...I love any opportunity for surprises, and...

Mail-art feels like sending a message in a bottle, out into the vast waves of the Post. I'm intrigued by its relative anonymity, yet intimacy. It's a way to explore, to make positive creative connections, to be free to express, experiment, and exchange. I enjoy the conversational aspect, whether or not any words are involved. And the excitement of distance and delivery. Mail-art is a worldwide network in all directions. I'm also interested in mail-art history.

My favorite medium is watercolor. I'm also interested in collage, maps, script, asemic writing, diaries and journaling.

Victorian DaDa

DeVillo Sloan inspired me to start this group, and I'd like help defining it, and would love to see other examples besides my own. This group is dedicated to mail art, perhaps with a time period theme (Pre-Raphaelite, Flapper, Byzantine, Edwardian, even modern day) of an elegant nature spiked with a Dada / Surreal twist. Elements can be added as creatively as the artist would like.... Or taken out. Nature is prevalent due to the Romantic floral effect and poetry (often cut & paste) is…See More

RobinJeree,

Thank you for your comment. The shapes in "Land of Olives 2012" are based on the leaves of the olive tree.  They are traditionally considered a symbol of peace. Google -- 'olive branch symbolism'. So when I read the Call for Entries back in 2012, the olive leaf as a symbol of peace came to mind, and the artwork evolved from that. The leaf form is a beautiful abstract shape as well.
