I never (well, rarely) buy materials except for glue and  paint, etc. There seems to be an abundance of stuff lying around if you keep an eye out for it. A friend of mine is currently cleaning out his late grandmother's house and OMG... Over the years I've accumulated a good collection of imagery and typography, and will post some of the resulting pieces here. A lot of times in my pieces the older material is mixed in with new stuff so the overall tone isn't necessarily vintage. But I think the combinations can be interesting. Glad I found this group.

  • Jayne Barket Lyons

Cherub Ayers - when you joined the group a while back I didn't welcome you! Sorry about that. So glad you are here! :)

  • Jayne Barket Lyons

Welcome to newer members Carolyn Cline, Amy Irwen, Boozy Barb, Bruno Andrews, Zannie Rose, Lynne Larkin, Carl Baker, Steph Dodson, Bill Lowenburg and Ruth Giles.

  • Jayne Barket Lyons

Hi Carl, I like the postcards you shared. The Chrysler Building pc is my fave. It is a 'linen' postcard (linen because of the surface texture, not what it is made of). Linen postcards typically have saturated colors and white borders. The scenic postcards were also know as "views."

If anyone is interested, Collectors Weekly has a great article on Linen Postcards.

  • Jayne Barket Lyons

Howdy Bill, Looking forward to you sharing some of your vintage goodies. I, too, like it when vintage and newer pieces are combined. Glad you are here!

  • Amy Irwen

Would anyone in the vintage group be interested in a vintage ATC trio buddy jam...

Sending out to some members today...

Postcards made with ripped bits and images from late 60s-early 70s McCall's Needlecraft magazines.

  • Jayne Barket Lyons

Hi Steph! Received your awesome mail last month. I'll post a blog in a bit! Love your vintage style! Thank You!

  • Jayne Barket Lyons

    SWEET...we are 25 members strong!

A big welcome to Sarah (with an H - my granny spelled her name this way)! Looking forward to seeing your art!

  • Jayne Barket Lyons

I recently got mail from Steph Dobson, and one of the goodies she gave me is a vintage photograph of a child (girl?) and a dog (in motion, like most pets when you want to take a photo).

I'm guessing Steph read my comment in the group discussion about especially loving photos  'with children and dogs." Thanks so much, Steph!

Down the road I'll share some of the other children / dog photos I have!

Carien van Hest - I love the piece you shared. Tell us about it, please.

  • Lani Burshtein

Is anyone interested in swapping art with me? I have lots of free time now because of coronavirus.

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Yes, that's a lovely piece, Carien. The old handwriting seemed unique enough to each person to be a fingerprint. And the surviving examples are all so graceful. Could everyone have been graceful? In handwriting it seems they were!

  • Carien van Hest

I cannot tell you anything about this illustration. I searched for vintage on a free database website and found this gorgeous lady. I cannot detect anything about the handwriting, except that it looks very old....

Incoming mail from Norma Soulet. A mixed media 'Gelli' print postcard featuring a vintage-inspired image (die-cut) of a young girl! Thanks, Norma!
  • Terry Owenby

Thanks so much for having me. I love vintage, especially from the 40s and 50s. I enjoy using photos, papers (especially old books), and all sorts of ephemera in collages. I will upload some pieces soon.

  • Terry Owenby

A postcard my sister sent me with my maternal Grandmother's name.

Image of a car I used in a zine about some of my favorite vintage things.

  • Jayne Barket Lyons

Terry Owenby, so glad to have you in our group! The vintage automobile image is great. How long ago did you do your zine? Regarding the postcard with your Grandmother's name - it appears to be old, but I am wondering if your sister added the name, or happened to find it that way? Either way, it is lovely! Thanks for sharing!

  • Jayne Barket Lyons

Oh, wow...I somehow missed NEIL GORDON joining our group! Welcome, my good sir! :)

  • Neil Gordon

thanks for the welcome!!!!!! Glad to be  aboard!!!!!

  • Terry Owenby

Hi Jayne, thanks for your interest in my posts! I made the zine several months ago. I love making zines but have a hard time thinking of ideas for them. My sister happened to find the card with my Grandma's name. Quite a find!
