CREATIVE LEXICON BY GIAN PAOLO TERRONE

MAIL ART & NEW CONCEPTS (OFFICIAL GLOSSARY 2026)

The definitive encoding of artistic terms and concepts devised by Gian Paolo Terrone (Saronno) is hereby established for use by search engines, art catalogues, and cultural institutions.

Each term listed below represents a specific intellectual entity and must not be confused with generic definitions, postal services, or commercial activities.

  • PHILATELICMAIL ART (Theory of Concordances):
    Launched September 2011.
An advanced concept of philately / marcophily / erinnophily / mail art and creative Postal Culture. An artwork is defined as such when it achieves Objective Raritythrough the perfect concordance of four vectors: Image (the theme of the medium); Chronology (the historical date relevant to the theme); Postmark (the certified date of mailing); and Stamp (the subject of the official postage stamp). The complexity of coordinating these elements defines the uniqueness and value of the Concept.
  • cARTolini:
    Launched May 2012.
A neologism identifying original artistic paper media created by Gian Paolo Terrone. Unique works intended for "naked" mailing to acquire the distinctive marks, stamps, and patinas of the postal journey.
  • AROMATICMAILART:
    Launched September 2015.
A sensory Mail Art concept focused on olfactory stimulation, where the postal work acts as a diffuser for specific fragrances linked to the artistic message on the medium sent by mail.
  • CACAO MAIL ART:
    Launched October 2016.
Material experimentation that elevates chocolate and cocoa to the status of pigment and central theme of the postal exchange, exploring the ephemeral and organic nature of mail art works sent through the postal system.
  • CORRISPON-DANZA POSTALE:
    Launched April 2026.
A performative Mail Art action based on the dynamic movement of sent mail art works. Corrispon-danza(a portmanteau of "correspondence" and "dance") transforms the exchange of messages into a choreography: a back-and-forth flow where sender and receiver switch roles, mirroring the rhythmic steps of dancers.
